Autal is a nature reserve (NSG number 1.100) in the area of the municipality of Bad Überkingen in the district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg . With an ordinance of March 19, 1982, the Stuttgart Regional Council placed the area under nature protection.

location

The protected area is located on the Bad Überkingen marker immediately northeast of the Aufhausen district of the city of Geislingen an der Steige on a northern slope of the Autals. It is located in the natural area 094 - Middle Kuppenalb within the natural spatial main unit 09 - Swabian Alb . It is part of the 5,430 hectare FFH area No. 7423342 Filsalb and the 39,597.3 hectare bird sanctuary 7422441 Middle Swabian Alb . Most of the territory is under the name Forest Reserve in March stockpile (no. 200016) as Schonwald reported.

Protection purpose

The purpose of protection is to maintain an excellently developed canyon forest community on the north-facing slopes of the Autales valley. Towards the Alb plateau, the area is bordered by a ring of rocks up to 25 m high, which has species-rich moss deposits. There you can find numerous karst springs in the area of the White Jura Beta, which cascade down under the formation of tuff as white water courses in several channels through the above-mentioned, over long stretches of exposed formation as waterfalls. They form a stream landscape that resembles the natural state.

The main spring is also of cultural and historical importance, as it supplied the drinking water for the community of Aufhausen before the Alb water supply was installed. The spring water flows from a partially accessible karst cave. A somewhat dilapidated path system with slope and valley side retaining walls leads to the cave.

Particularly noteworthy and extremely worthy of protection is a mass occurrence (close to 100,000) of the Märzenbecher (Leucojum vernum).
