Spielburg is a nature reserve in the area of ​​the Baden-Württemberg district town of Göppingen.

Characteristics

The nature reserve was designated by ordinance of the Stuttgart Regional Council of September 23, 1994 and has a size of 31.2 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 1.204. The CDDA code for the nature reserve is 165611 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

Location and description

The Spielburgscholle is located around five kilometers northeast of Göppingen directly on the Hohenstaufen district of Göppingen on the southwest slope of the Hohenstaufen . The complex, which is around 600 meters long and 130 meters wide, consists of white Jura stones that are stored here at the level of the surrounding Brown Jura. There are predominantly mass limestone and bank limestone as well as marl of the White Jura, some of which are still preserved and tipped in rock. The whole thing is interpreted as a sliding floe, which was replaced by the Hohenstaufen, which was still much higher at that time , in the Young Tertiary- Old Pleistocene .

The nature reserve is completely enclosed by the landscape conservation area Hohenstaufen, Rechberg, Stuifen with Aasrücke and Rehgebirge , which is number 1.17.011 in the district of Göppingen. The play castle is located in the natural area 101 - Middle Alb foreland within the natural spatial main unit 10 - Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land . It is part of the FFH area No. 7224-311 Rehgebirge and Pfuhlbach . The Spielburgscholle is also protected as a geotope under the name Steinbruch in the Spielburgscholle W von Hohenstaufen .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation and promotion of the geologically interesting play castle area and its surroundings in particular

  • the diverse, ecologically valuable and networked biotope types, such as B. Lean calcareous lawns, rocks, rubble, grasslands, field trees, hedges, wetlands, deciduous forest, block heaps and orchards,
  • the diversity of fauna and flora resulting from this biodiversity of biotopes with endangered species on the Red List,
  • the particularly natural, attractive and prominent landscape with the only larger and contiguous limestone grassland in the area of ​​the city of Göppingen.
