The Steinhavel lock is located at kilometer 64.60 on the Upper Havel waterway in the Steinförde district northwest of Fürstenberg / Havel in the Oberhavel district . The lock is located in the so-called Steinhavel, a little built-up section of the Havel between Menowsee and Röblinsee .
history
In 1350 a water mill was first mentioned on the eponymous "stony Furth" of the Havel. Barley and oil mills were operated here in the 15th and 16th centuries .
In 1840 the Steinhavel was made navigable and the first lock was built, next to the lock the mill buildings that are still preserved today were built. In 1953, the then miller was expropriated and the mill transferred to public ownership. In 1992, the mill was sold to the former owner restituted . From 2008 the mill building will be renovated.
tourism
Since the Obere Havel waterway is no longer used by cargo ships and is only used by a few small passenger ships, it has developed into a popular area for sports boats of all sizes and classes.
