The narrow-Biarum ( Biarum tenuifolium ) is a species in the genus Biarum in the family of Araceae (Araceae).

description

The narrow-leaved biarum is a bald, perennial plant . It has an underground, hemispherical to disc-shaped tuber and up to 5 cm long, underground stems . The leaves only sprout after flowering . They are linear to narrowly elliptical , flat or wavy and measure 5 to 20 cm × 5 to 20 mm.

The spathe has a length of 8 to 20 (to 30) cm and is fused at the base (underground) over a length of 2.5 to 6 cm. Its front, flat part is lanceolate, dark purple and greenish on the outside. The flower bulb (spadix) has sterile flowers both above and below the male flowers. Its end piece is slender, 9 to 16 cm long, up to 3 mm wide, protrudes far and is purple in color. The berries are white or green.

The chromosome number is 2n = 16 or 18, in the subspecies Biarum tenuifolium subsp. idomenaeum it is 2n = 26.

Occurrence

The narrow-leaved biarum occurs in the Mediterranean area, but is absent in France, the Balearic Islands , Sardinia and the Levant . The species grows on rocky slopes, in maquis and on cultivated land.

Systematics

The narrow-leaved biarum ( Biarum tenuifolium (L.) Schott ) is divided into six subspecies:

  • Biarum tenuifolium subsp. abbreviatum (Schott) K. Richt. : This subspecies occurs in Sardinia , southern Italy, Sicily , Macedonia and western Greece.
  • Biarum tenuifolium subsp. arundanum (Boiss. & Reut.) Nyman is common in southwest Spain, Gibraltar , southern Portugal and northern Morocco.
  • Biarum tenuifolium subsp. galianii (Talavera) PCBoyce , occurs only in the southwestern Spanish districts of Badajoz and Huelva .
  • Biarum tenuifolium subsp. idomenaeum Boyce & Athanasiou is on Crete in the prefectures of Heraklion and Lasithi endemic . It grows in open forests, Phrygana and on rocks at altitudes of 50 to 1500 m above sea level. NN. Their leaves are linear-lanceolate, strongly wavy and measure 2.5 to 10 cm × 2 to 9 (rarely up to 14) mm. They are usually pressed to the ground. The appendage of the spadix is ​​3 to 12 cm long and 1.5 to 4 mm thick.
  • Biarum tenuifolium (L.) Schott subsp. tenuifolium : This subspecies occurs in southern Italy, Sicily, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania and Greece.
  • Biarum tenuifolium subsp. zelebori (Schott) PCBoyce , occurs on Crete , Rhodes and Kos as well as in the southwest Turkish provinces of Aydın , Izmir and Muğla .
