Schneideramtshaus (Hanover)
The tailor's office building in Hanover , originally built in the 17th century, was replaced by the current building at the time of National Socialism . The listed building is located at Kreuzstraße 11 in the Kreuzkirchen district of the old town in the Mitte district .
history
The guild of Hanoverian master tailors originally used a building in Burgstrasse as a meeting place, before the house was moved to Kreuzstrasse 10 in 1669 . One of the pieces of equipment previously found in the house was a " Journeyman - Welcome from the tailor's office from 1655" with the master's mark H.S (for Hinrich Sädeler ). The device was later kept in the Vaterländisches Museum , today's Hanover Historical Museum .
In 1936 the Schneideramtshaus was dismantled as part of the renovation of the old town - for example, the Hitler Youth was supposed to march around the former Judenstrasse - and then rebuilt in a modified manner by the architect Wilhelm Fricke at Kreuzstrasse 10 (today: house number 11 ) using some historical parts.
Building description
The half-timbered house that was "rebuilt" in 1939 now stands on a massive ground floor. The remainder of a coat of arms above the lintel was "probably" reused by the sculptor Peter Köster . The left inscription reads: “DAS AMPT DER SCHNEIDER GILDEHAUS”, while the right, originally “IST BUILT ANNO DOMINI 1669”, has been replaced by “RE ESTABLISHED IN 1939”.
