Faster, higher, Weidner is the first solo album by Stephan Weidner , the head and bassist of the band Böhse Onkelz .

It was released in 2008 by the 3R Entertainment label and reached number 2 on the German album charts. In 2011, it received a gold record for more than 100,000 units sold in Germany .

History of origin

According to Stephan Weidner, the first material for the album was created in the mid-1990s. During this time he had many ideas that he could not realize with the band Böhse Onkelz . This resulted in plans to release a solo album.

After the end of the Böhsen Onkelz in 2005, he worked on this material together with Rupert Keplinger, Peter Maffay's long-time guitarist . In addition, he invited other artists to the studio, for example the American band Pro-Pain and the singer Nina C. Alice from Skew Siskin , to record the songs. In April 2008 the album was completed.

The album was released on April 25, 2008 on the 3R Entertainment label. A record version is limited to 2000 copies and was released on March 20, 2009. The vinyl version also contains the songs Heiss , Du kann es and Wer hatst dich? .

Music genre

The album combines the Onkelz-typical hard rock with modern elements. While the previous band is practically continued in the album's opener, the next songs are rather untypical. The single story hater is much more positive and cheerful than Weidner's earlier work. Sea of Tears processes elements of trip-hop and contains string passages .

Cover design

The cover, like the entire album, is black and quite simple. The entire album is in a sleeve that shows tears from the picture on the cover. This picture consists of a " laurel wreath made of barbed wire ", a W in it and the album title on ribbons to the right and left of the title. If the album is in the sleeve, you can only see the laurel wreath.

Individual songs

The W two three

The album's opener is a self-adulation in the old Böhsen-Onkelz style, which is intended to establish a relationship to the Onkelz works.

Story haters

The song is mostly about Weidner's past and the tracks on his album. So these are “not to fall asleep”: “Everything I say helps you not to sleep .” The song was released as an audio sample in the run-up to the album and was the first single on the album, including a video.

Arms & Neuroses

The song deals with the theme of the rampage . According to Edmund Hartsch, the song is a piece that falls out of the ordinary because of its dark atmosphere.

ashes to Ashes

Stephan Weidner sings about the end of the Onkelz and how he deals with it today. At the same time, he emphasizes that there is no going back. After the end of the Onkelz, there were many voices, especially in web forums, that hoped the band would return. With this song, Weidner finally made it clear that it was final for him.

“The dream is over, I haven't regretted a second. (..) I taste the Onkelz on my tongue and in my heart. (...) But it's over, my friend! "

Sea of tears

The song was created under the impression of the turn of the millennium and the numerous catastrophe / doomsday scenarios. In the end, Weidner wanted a rhyme with reference to the Illuminatus trilogy ! incorporate: "The empty word multiplied by itself - the eschaton immanent." However, the rhyme no longer made it into the text.

My best Enemy

In this song Stephan sings about his relationship with a former good friend (“did you forget who you were in the end?”), He tries to end an argument and forgive him. However, he could not forget what was, so with this song he writes his feelings and opinions on the subject from his soul.

Silent days in the cliché

The song is about the cowardice to run away from problems by trying to "drown them in alcohol". Weidner selects here also a famous quote: "worries drown, yes, drink works wonders, but they are not drowned, I dip 'them only." The title is obviously a reference to the novel Quiet Days in Clichy the writer Henry Miller of 1956.

shadow

This song should help everyone to come to terms with the past, which may have been shaped by unpleasant things. Stephan Weidner reports on how the past can constantly catch up with you and how difficult it is to escape from it. In the end, however, he empowers the listener by giving him tips on how to leave the past behind. One should never “forget to forget”. It is time to step out of the "shadow and its fetters", because "yesterday belongs to death" and there is nothing that can still be used.

please kill Me

The only song that is sung in a duet, his singing partner is the singer Nina C. Alice from the Berlin rock band Skew Siskin . Weidner sings about the end of a love affair, after which he wishes for love or hate from the woman, but not just anything. The listener is addressed directly and asked whether he hates what he is getting.

Between dream and paralysis

Techno DJ Markus Löffel , known by his stage name Mark Spoon, was a good friend of the Onkelz and, among other things, was responsible for looking after guests in the VIP area at the Böhsen Onkelz farewell festival in 2005. Weidner already knew spoon in his youth. Weidner dedicated this title to him and in it sings about his feelings about the death of Spoon in January 2006.

A song for my son

Weidner dedicates this song to his son Elvis. He emphasizes how much he loves him: "I love you, more than saying words, in every breath, until the end of my days."

take good care of yourself

The song is about the separation of Weidner from his wife and the resulting changes in his life. “Strangely strange in a once familiar world.” It serves as a calm end to the album.

Weidner's past as a member of the Böhse Onkelz band is always in focus. Jens-Christian Rabe of the Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote that Weidner specifically flirted with texts and symbols of National Socialism in the lyrics of his debut album Schneller, higher, Weidner .
