Mark Spoon , bourgeois Markusöffel (born  November 27, 1966 in Frankfurt am Main ; †  January 11, 2006 in Berlin ) was a German producer and DJ in the field of dance / techno and a representative of the Sound of Frankfurt .

Life

Markusöffel grew up with his grandmother in Frankfurt-Sossenheim . He ran away from home for the first time at the age of twelve. He later became a criminal. At the age of 16 he dropped out of school in order to train as a chef and worked in a large discotheque.

In addition, he founded the hip-hop project "We wear the Crown" with the then 16-year-old Moses Pelham , gained his first stage experience in various clubs and later devoted himself to his DJ career by putting on records and producing them himself. In 1990, in the early stages of techno music suitable for the masses, he was able to hire the record label “Logic Records” as a talent scout. Here he worked, among other things, for the SNAP! and also discovered artists like Dr. Alban .

From 1991 on, Markus Loon called himself DJ Mark Spoon and performed together with Sven Väth in the Omen and with DJ Dag in the XS in Frankfurt , which he ran with Alex Azary from 1991 to 1994. In addition, he achieved chart successes with Rolf Ellmer alias Jam El Mar as Jam & Spoon , with whom he also shared the projects Tokyo Ghetto Pussy and Storm . He often appeared as a DJ at the Mayday and Loveparade events . His biggest hits under Jam & Spoon were Right In The Night (Fall In Love With Music) with singer Plavka , Follow me and Kaleidoscope Skies , which were placed in the European top ten for weeks .

From 1994 to 2003 Mark Spoon was part of the resident team at the techno / trance radio show Clubnight of the Hessischer Rundfunk . At the height of the techno movement , he received fees of up to DM 10,000 per performance. In addition to his artistic work, he also increasingly consumed drugs and alcohol. Known - and used several times as a sample - his saying to the masses on a truck at the Love Parade in 1995: "Why are you so shit quiet?"

Even later, with his projects such as Storm, he repeatedly ensured success in the techno scene and also in the charts, for example with the Jam & Spoon hit be.Angeled from 2001. The film of the same name also comes from this year . angeled by Roman Kuhn. Mark Spoon was there next to Lexy from Lexy & K-Paul as a cameo .

One of his last jobs was looking after the VIPs at the farewell festival of the Böhsen Onkelz at the Lausitzring in June 2005, whose bassist and songwriter Stephan Weidner he knew from his youth. He dedicated the song "Between Dream and Paralysis", which appeared on the album "Schneller, Höher, Weidner", to him.

Mark Spoon was found dead by the police in his Berlin apartment on the morning of January 11, 2006. He died of heart failure . His urn was buried on February 6, 2006 in the Frankfurt main cemetery.
