In the Box (English for In der Kiste ; 2013 to 2015 as Schulz in the Box ) was a German entertainment television show in which musician Olli Schulz was brought to various locations in a wooden box in the first two seasons . Apparently without preparation, he had to find his way in a new situation there. The program was broadcast on the German TV station ProSieben and repeated on the pay TV station ProSieben Fun . After Schulz left, the show was continued in 2016 as In the Box with changing celebrities.

concept

At the beginning of each episode, Olli Schulz is brought in a wooden box to another location inside or outside Germany , for example to a porn film production by Fuck for Forest , to a "host boy" service or to the prison in Hanover . There he is accompanied by a caregiver to people with whom he spends one or more days.

Olli Schulz said about the announcement of the show:

“Schulz in the Box is more than a show. It's an experience. It gives the viewer the opportunity to review the life path they have chosen. It will be an adventure for me too and I am looking forward to giving my life a new shade of color. "

- Olli Schulz : (Prosieben: The new show with Olli Schulz )

The concept was sold under the title Host in The Box to the private broadcaster Cuatro of the PRISA media group in Spain, where it was moderated by various people. In Italy, Teo Teocoli presented the program Teo in the Box . In Hungary it was also shown on Super TV2 under the title Hajós a dobozban .

Charisma

The premiere episode with environmental activists from “Fuck for Forest” ran on August 26, 2013 at 10:15 pm on ProSieben. This first episode achieved an above-average market share for the station of 12.7 percent in the advertising-relevant target group of 14 to 49-year-old viewers, so that further editions were produced.

The first season with three episodes was broadcast from February 3, 2014 during the winter break of the program Circus HalliGalli . In these episodes Schulz traveled to Tokyo , Moscow and Hanover . After the mostly good ratings of the first season, ProSieben announced that the show would continue.

The first episode of the second season was broadcast on September 1, 2014, further episodes were initially not broadcast. The remaining episodes were broadcast in February 2015.

After that, no more episodes with Olli Schulz were produced. Schulz announced that he would like to concentrate more on his music career in the future.

reception

The second and third episodes were received rather cautiously by the public on social media , while the fourth episode in the Hanover JVA received positive audience reactions on the Internet. Most of the first four episodes achieved good ratings.

The format was also rated mixed in other media.

“Anyone who scratches the gossip will often find their own moments of frustration among them. A pinch of that cheerful discomfort that you know from TV series like Larry David's Curb your Enthusiasm , when you watch a character make himself uncompromisingly impossible. "

“So worth seeing that a format that started with weaknesses like“ Schulz in the Box ”deserves a closer look. [...] seldom has such an unfamiliar foreign body been so welcome in the program line-up as "Schulz in the Box". "
