Life

Scumeck Sabottka is the first of three children of Kaufman Hans Georg Sabottka and his wife Adelheid (née Kuntze). At the age of 18 Sabottka moved to West Berlin and joined the punk scene there.

Back home he was the guitarist of the Dortmund punk rock group 'Public Enemy'. He got to know the musician FM Einheit from the Hamburg formation Abwärts and in 1982 hired himself as the band's driver. He later became tour manager of the Einstürzende Neubauten group , which he accompanied internationally until 1984. Also in 1982 he held his first concert in the SO 36 Club in Berlin with the Australian noise electro group 'SPK'.

In August 1984 he founded the company MCT, Music Consulting Team GmbH 'in Herne , together with the boss of the company' Rough Trade Booking 'Dietrich Eggert and the manager of the band Die Toten Hosen , Jochen Hülder . The company's first tours were with the punk band Ramones from New York, the British punk combo King Kurt and the English avant-garde musician John Cale . At the same time, Sabottka worked as an international tour manager for Violent Femmes and Johnathan Richman .

After Eggert and Hülder left, Sabottka took over the MCT company in 1988 with the Düsseldorf concert promoters Bernhard Lewkowicz and Rene Heinersdorff Jr.

In 1994 Sabottka moved with MCT to Munich, separated from Lewkowicz and Heinersdorff jr and merged with the well-known concert promoters Marcel Avram and Fritz Rau , who took over the majority of the company shares. During this time (from 1994 to 1999) Sabottka organized concerts for artists such as: REM , Lenny Kravitz , Red Hot Chili Peppers , The Cramps , Celine Dion , Tom Waits , Tanita Tikaram , Marilyn Manson , Melissa Etheridge , Sheryl Crow , Velvet Underground , Patti Smith , Ryuichi Sakamoto , Kraftwerk , Robbie Williams or Nick Cave and many more

In 1998 Sabottka bought back the majority of the company shares from Avram & Rau and moved again to Berlin. This was followed by stadium tours with Robbie Williams , which in 2006 were around 1.2 million tickets sold. From 1991 to 2018 Sabottka was responsible for the worldwide coordination of the live performances of the electronics pioneers Kraftwerk . Sabottka has been responsible for coordinating the worldwide live performances of the German rock band Rammstein since 1991 .

In 2005 Sabottka founded the concert ticket sales portal 'tickets.de', which he sold again in 2010. In 2010, 150,000 personalized concert tickets for the stadium tour of the band Take That were sold worldwide for the first time . There followed a vehement struggle against the secondary sale of concert tickets at inflated prices.

In 2017, the documentary film Der Konzertdealer by filmmaker Sobo Swobodnik about Scumeck Sobottka was released in German cinemas, in which the tough, globalized business behind the tours in the backstage area of the concert industry is portrayed. The soundtrack comes from the British experimental musician and artist Dinos Chapman .
