The Seabourn Encore is a cruise ship of the Carnival Corporation belonging Seabourn Cruise Line .

history

The ship was built under construction number 6251 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera . The construction contract was signed on January 14, 2014. In January 2015, the names Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation were announced for the sister ship . The first steel cut took place on April 13, 2015, the keel was laid on September 15, 2015. The ship floated up on March 4th. The floating ceremony was sponsored by Marnie Tihany, the wife of hotel and restaurant designer Adam D. Tihany, who was also the sponsor of the traditional coin ceremony in February. The ship was completed on November 30, 2016 and handed over to the shipping company. It was baptized on January 7, 2017 in Singapore . Godmother was the British singer Sarah Brightman .

The guest area of the ship was designed by the hotel and restaurant designer Adam D. Tihany, who, also with a view to the target group of the ship - passengers over 60 years - opted for round shapes in many areas, which pose less risk of injury than edges. The cost of building the ship was around $ 270 million.

In February 2017, the ship collided with the cargo ship Milburn Carrier II in the port of Timaru in New Zealand after several mooring lines were broken due to strong winds .

description

The ship is based on the three-ship Odyssey class from Seabourn Cruise Line and is around ten meters longer and one deck extended compared to these . The ship has twelve decks, ten of which are accessible to passengers (on the lowest passenger deck, deck 3, passengers can only access the bathing platform at the stern of the ship). All cabins are outside cabins with a balcony.

The ship is approved for 635 passengers who can be accommodated in 300 cabins. There is a total of 1,120 people on board. There are 238 cabins available for the ship's crew.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by diesel-electric technology . The Propulsion is provided by two electric motors of the manufacturer Wärtsilä SAM Electronics, each with 6,000  kilowatts of power , on two fixed propeller act. The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters with an output of 1,750 kilowatts each and two stern thrusters with an output of 1,500 kilowatts each.

Four diesel generator sets are available for power generation. The generators are each driven by a twelve-cylinder diesel engine from the manufacturer Wärtsilä (type: 12V32D) with an output of 5,760 kilowatts each and have an apparent output of 8,235 kVA. The ship reaches a speed of 18.6  knots . The bunker capacity is sufficient to cover around 5,000 nautical miles at a speed of 15 knots  . Two gas scrubbers were installed for the exhaust gas desulfurization.

The production of drinking water on board is done using two evaporators and two plants that the process of reverse osmosis use. The evaporators use the waste heat from the main engines. They can each generate 200 cubic meters of drinking water in 24 hours. The two reverse osmosis systems can each generate 400 cubic meters in 24 hours. A total of 1,200 cubic meters of drinking water can be generated on board in 24 hours.

The ship is equipped with four Hatecke dinghies , which are suspended from hydraulically operated davits . The boats can also serve as lifeboats . The boats are approved for 120 people, as lifeboats they can hold 150 people. In addition, the ship is equipped with two other Hatecke lifeboats suspended from davits, each with a capacity of 120 people, as well as with 16 life rafts for 35 people each, eight of which can also be launched using davits.
