Selenium oxide chloride is an inorganic chemical compound of selenium from the group of oxide chlorides . It is the chloride of selenious acid (H 2 SeO 3 ).
Extraction and presentation
Selenium oxide chloride can be obtained by a two-stage reaction of selenium dioxide with hydrogen chloride .
Alternatively, selenium dioxide can also be reacted with thionyl chloride at 50 ° C. to form selenium oxide chloride.
properties
Selenium oxychloride is a non-flammable, little volatile, straw-yellow, hygroscopic liquid that smokes in moist air, which decomposes in water to form hydrogen chloride and selenium acid and is infinitely miscible with carbon tetrachloride , trichloromethane , carbon disulphide , benzene and toluene . It forms colorless crystals at temperatures below 8 ° C.
use
Selenium oxychloride is occasionally used as a solvent because of its solubility for almost all substances .
