The Freinberg transmitter is a broadcasting system in the statistical district of Freinberg in Linz . The internal name of the sender is: LINZ2

history

It was launched in 1928 as a medium wave transmitter and until 1936 used a T-antenna that was suspended from two 45-meter-high steel truss masts. In 1936 this antenna was replaced by a 165-meter-high, braced steel framework transmission mast , insulated from the earth . In the course of changes in the transmission frequency, its height was reduced to 120 meters in 1950 and increased again to 146 meters in 1957. In 1965 the transmitters were renewed. After the transmission of radio programs via VHF had largely replaced medium wave, the transmission mast was only used as a carrier for VHF and television antennas.

In the period from April to August 2008, the existing 80-year-old transmission mast was initially shortened by around 20 meters and a new one was built next to the old transmission mast. After the new transmitter was put into operation, the old mast was finally dismantled. The new 127 meter high mast serves only as an antenna carrier; it is no longer intended to function as a self-radiating transmitter mast .

Infrastructure

The owner, ORF / ORS , sends the DVB-T programs for the greater Linz area from here (see table below). The DVB-H offer of Media Broadcast is also sent via the same antenna system . The station has also been used by LoungeFM , an Upper Austrian private radio, since 2008 . LoungeFM broadcasts on the frequency 102.0 MHz with 300 watts of power.

Furthermore, there are transmission systems and radio relay systems from cell phone operators as well as various other radio services on the mast.

In the building next to the transmitter mast is the radio surveillance Linz, a department of the BMVIT , which formerly belonged to PTV (Post), today's Telekom Austria . Other PTV departments that dealt with radio technology were also housed here. B. Mobilkom Austria emerged . There are numerous direction finding and measuring antenna systems for radio monitoring on the roof . One of the anchoring foundations of the transmitter is also located on the site of the radio surveillance (next to the main entrance).
