Localization of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany

The Frohser Berg transmitter is located in the Frohse district of the town of Schönebeck (Elbe) in Saxony-Anhalt . It is used for radio programs and telecommunications services. The owner of the radio tower is the Deutsche Funkturm GmbH .

location

The transmitter is located on the 115.5 meter high Frohser Berg , whose area extends over three districts and is five kilometers as the crow flies from Schönebeck city center. The system was built on the Schönebeck district of Frohse at a height of 112 meters. The property is about 700 m².

Buildings and technical systems

The so-called A tower was the first building of the radio station to be completed on June 30, 1959 . It is a rectangular, 25 meter high type building for the former district radio control centers of the GDR state party SED . There was an independent communication system between the party district leaderships and the SED central committee via narrowband radio . The directional radio transmitter was housed in the originally wood-clad building, and the necessary antennas were installed on the roof. At the beginning of the 1990s, after the end of the GDR, Telekom Deutschland initially took over the A tower and continued to use it as a radio relay.

In 1996, Deutsche Telekom erected a 158-meter-high reinforced concrete tower on the broadcasting site to serve as an antenna carrier for broadcasting radio programs. Several cable bridges to the radio tower were set up for the VHF transmitters housed in the A tower.

Broadcasting usage (as of 2006)

The participating broadcasters Deutschlandfunk , Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk , Radio Brocken and Radio SAW broadcast their programs with transmitters of different power levels between 1.5 and 20 kW and also name the transmission location differently.

  • Deutschlandfunk transmits on 102.0 MHz with an output of 20 kW and uses the “Magdeburg” transmitter identification.
  • The Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk ("Magdeburg, Frohser Berg") broadcasts two programs with MDR Aktuell and MDR Sputnik : Currently on 91.1 MHz with 2 kW and Sputnik on 105.2 MHz with 1.5 kW.
  • Radio Brocken ("Magdeburg") broadcasts its program on 105.7 MHz with an output of 15 kW.
  • Radio SAW ("Schönebeck") uses the frequency 100.1 MHz and also transmits with 20 kW.

Digital radio ( DAB )

DAB was broadcast in vertical polarization and in single-frequency mode with other transmitters until September 2012. The cessation of broadcasting on DAB channel 12C took place due to the activation of DAB channel 11C and increased power at the Magdeburg broadcasting site (Burg-Kapaunberg) . Via this new transmitter, located in the north of Magdeburg, the radio programs of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk and private radio providers previously broadcast in the old DAB network are broadcast with a transmission power of 10 kW ERP.
