Sergei Gennadjewitsch Proswirnin ( Russian Сергей Геннадьевич Просвирнин * 17th March 1970 in Balakovo , Saratov Oblast ) is a former Russian Cross Country - Sommerbiathlet .

Sergei Proswirnin comes from a sports-loving family and in his youth he practiced various winter sports, including figure skating . After his family moved to Sverdlovsk in 1985, he started cross-country skiing . Rather by chance, he took part in a biathlon competition in 1994 because his military school was unable to fill the discipline in a competition. From 1995 he mainly devoted himself to biathlon. Proswirnin was one of the world's top cross-country summer biathletes around the turn of the millennium. Although he was never able to win an individual medal at either World or European Championships , he won four titles in world championship races as a reliable team runner with the Russian relay: 1998 in Osrblie , 1999 in Minsk with Alexei Kobelew , Alexei Kowjasin and Dmitri Nikiforow , and 2000 in Chanty -Mansijsk with Kowjasin, Andrei Prokunin and Nikiforow and in 2002 in Jablonec nad Nisou with Kobelew, Pawel Tschuprijanow and Nikiforow. In 2000 he led his season as the final runner to success. When he was not appointed in 2001 , the Russian relay achieved third place, their worst result they had ever achieved in this competition. In 2004 Proswirnin took part in the first ever European Summer Biathlon Championships in Clausthal-Zellerfeld . He finished fifth in the sprint and was again fifth in the pursuit. In the relay race he ran out of competition with the second Russian relay, with this relay, if it had gone into the classification, with Yevgenia Michailova , Galina Mesenzewa and Timur Nurmejew, behind the first Russian relay, would have won the silver medal. 1991 closed Proswirnin training at the Political-Military College of Armored Artillery in Sverdlovsk ( Свердловское высшее военно-политическое танко-артиллерийское училище ), now Military High School of Artillery in Yekaterinburg ( Екатеринбургское высшее артиллерийское командное училище (ЕВАКУ) ), and began in 2002 doctoral studies at the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy in Saint Petersburg , where he works as a biathlon trainer. He is the director of the Saint Petersburg Biathlon Federation. The major was honored as an Honored Master of Sport , he is married to Nadja , a former Russian champion in cross-country skiing, and has two daughters.
