Sergei Kiriakov ( Russian Сергей Вячеславович Кирьяков * 1. January 1970 in Oryol ) is a Russian football coach and former football player .

He had his greatest successes in the Bundesliga from 1992 to 1998 at Karlsruher SC under Winfried Schäfer . The striker was very good at dribbling, but had weaknesses in the end. Further stations were Hamburger SV and TeBe Berlin .

The 1.74 meter tall Russian made 38 international matches for his home country. In the Bundesliga , "Kiki" played for KSC in 145 games with 29 goals and in the 1998/99 season for HSV in 29 games with five goals.

Career

Karlsruher SC

After the European Championships in Sweden in 1992 , where Kirjakow came to two missions for the CIS against the Netherlands and Scotland , he moved to the Karlsruhe Wildlife Park for Winfried Schäfer's team .

With the new offensive forces Kirjakow and Manfred Bender , Karlsruher SC not only had a positive goal difference with 60:54 goals at the end of the 1992/93 season for the first time since being promoted, but also achieved a sixth place with 39:29 points, which was hardly expected at the start of the season qualified for the UEFA Cup . Kirjakow distinguished himself as the best shooter of the KSC this season with his eleven goals. A personal highlight for him was the third game of the season against Werder Bremen in the home stadium: After the Rehhagel protégés went 0-2, Winnie Schäfer's men turned the game around with 5-2 goals. Kirjakow himself scored three goals.

The sporting heights of the KSC continued in the 1993/94 European Cup season . Via PSV Eindhoven , FC Valencia , Girondins Bordeaux and Boavista Porto they made it to the semi-finals. Here they were defeated by Austria Salzburg due to the away goal rule (0: 0 and 1: 1). The highlight of the season was the second leg against Valencia CF on November 2, 1993 in the Wildpark Stadium. After the 3-1 defeat in Spain, the affair was over for most fans. In the so-called miracle of the wildlife park , the KSC managed a sensational 7-0 victory, which is still a high point in the club's history.

In the following years, the KSC was able to establish itself with Kirjakow and newcomers like Thomas Häßler in the top third of the Bundesliga table. In the 1995/96 season , the club caused another sensation when they defeated the reigning champions and table leaders Borussia Dortmund - also thanks to two goals from Kirjakow - 5-0 in the Wildparkstadion and reached the final of the DFB Cup , which Kirjakow however missed due to a yellow card suspension. In 1997 and 1998 they took part again in the UEFA Cup, but failed each in the round of 16.

After the surprising relegation in the 1997/98 season , Kirjakow played two years in Germany for Hamburger SV and Tennis Borussia Berlin before ending his career in China .

National team

In 1988 Kirjakow won the European Junior Championship with the U18 national team of the Soviet Union . In 1990 he did the same with the U21 selection. He also took part in the 1989 World Junior Championship . Here the Soviet Union failed despite two goals from Kirjakow in the quarter-finals.

With the senior national team Kirjakow took part in the 1992 European Championships in Sweden and the 1996 European Championships in England. In 38 full international matches for the Soviet Union, CIS and Russia between 1989 and 1998, he scored 15 goals.

Trainer

In early October 2016, he became the coach of the Russian club Arsenal Tula .
