history

Seventh Angel was founded in 1987 by Ian Arkley and Scott Rawson. In 1987 drummer Andrew Blount joined the band, but played only a few songs and was replaced by Andy Hopkins in December of the same year. During this time, Stuart Benton occupied the post of singer, but was then replaced a short time later by Ian Arkley.

In 1989 the band recorded their first demo called Seventh Angel and started doing a few gigs. At the beginning of the year the band got a new drummer with Mark Ruff. On the Seventh Angel demo , Arkley played lead guitar, bass and also sang all the songs. A few days later, Simon Bibby joined the band as bassist and played a few gigs with the band in the West Midlands . They played their first concert in May 1989 in their hometown of Netherton. In August 1989 the band made their fifth appearance at the Greenbelt Festival . A short time later, drummer Ruff left the band and Seventh Angel went on tour through Great Britain and Ireland with the American band Whitecross . Colin Brookes was the drummer during this tour. After the tour, however, he left the band and Andrew "Tank" Thompson replaced him. Guitarist Rawson also left the band for a short time, but rejoined the band after a short time. In 1989 the band also recorded their second demo, The Rehersal Demo . During the recording, Rawson left the band for a few months. On December 27th, he rejoined the band.

On January 25, 1990, Seventh Angel appeared on the English television station Channel 4 . The performance included the song Divine Takeover and an interview with Brian Redhead. Later that year, Bibby and Arkley had a traffic accident on February 14th in which Arkley knocked out some teeth and Bibby broke his arm. Nevertheless, they managed to complete their subsequent live performances. Bibby was only able to sing. Between March 12th and 14th the band recorded their third demo called Heed the Warning . It was recorded and mixed at White Rabbit Studios under the direction of Paul Hodson in Bridgnorth . A short time later she recorded her first album The Torment under the direction of Paul Hodson at Mad Hat Studios in Wolverhampton . Rodney Matthews designed the cover of the album. In the following months the band played a few concerts in Dudley and Stourbridge , as well as five appearances at The Rock Tavern in Brierley Hill . In November the band headlined Metal Meltdown .

This was the last gig before Simon Bibby left the band in 1991. Simon Jones took over his position on bass and Seventh Angel continued to play concerts in Stourbridge and Horsham . From March 21st to April 7th the band toured the UK with Toranaga . On this tour, Earl Morris took over the post of bassist. From July 4th to 16th the band recorded their second album Lament for the Weary under the direction of Roy Rowland at the ICC Studios in Eastbourne . This was then mixed at the beginning of August. On August 23, the band played together with Galactic Cowboys at the Greenbelt Festival . After this performance, drummer Thompson left the band. In October 1991 guitarist Rawson left the band shortly after a performance in Croydon . From November 1st to November 14th the band broke up for a short time, but then reunited to play their first concert in Germany , more precisely at the Christmas Rock Night in Ennepetal on December 7th. Jon Willis played the bass. In the following months, Earl Morris and Nic White also helped out on bass.

In February 1992, the gig from the Greenbelt Festival was broadcast on the BBC . In the early months of 1992 the band played various appearances in Germany, the Netherlands and Great Britain. On May 30th the band played in Utrecht , Netherlands. Mark Broomhead (Detritus) played bass. Then the band played again together with the band Veni Domine at the Greenbelt Festival. As a result, the band held a tour through the Netherlands from September 9th to October 12th and October 12th to December 12th. On December 12th they played their last appearance in Utrecht for the time being.

In 2005, The Torment and Lament for the Weary were re-released via Retroactive Records . In addition, Heed the Warning - Live ( Bombwork Records ), a compilation of old demo recordings and live recordings, was released.

In 2008, Seventh Angel reunited. The Torment and Lament for the Weary albums were re-released again, this time on Metal Mind Productions .

In spring / summer 2009 the band signed a contract with Bombwork Records. Appearances in the Netherlands and Norway followed. In March of the same year, the album The Dust of Years was recorded in the Priory Studios and then released. Appearances in Belgium and Switzerland followed.
