Shin Kazuhara

Shin Kazuhara ( Japanese 数 原 晋 , Kazuhara Shin ; born September 13, 1946 in Kurashiki ) is a Japanese jazz and studio musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , arrangement ).

Live and act

Kazuhara studied with Genzō Kitamura at the Kunitachi Conservatory . At age 20, he started in the relevant big bands like Tokyo Union Orchestra , Swing Face or & Flats Sharps by Nobuo Hara occur. From the early 1970s he played in the formation The Wind Breakers ( inter alia with Kōnosuke Saijō , Takeshi Inomata , Donald Bailey ) and in Toshiyuki Miyama's big band New Herd . In the mid-1970s he worked as a studio musician for popular television programs and accompanied numerous singers. He also took part in recordings by jazz musicians Norio Maeda , Yasuko Agawa , Kohji Fujika , Jiro Inagaki , Masao Yagi , Shun Sakai and the vocalists Anli Sugano , Harumi Kaneko , Keiko Saijō , Miki Matsubara , Himiko Kikuchi , Lisa Mizumachi and Chiaki Ogasawara .

In 1988 Kazuhara founded his own big band Tokyo Ensemble Lab , in which he worked with young musicians and released two albums, Breath from the Season (1988) and Sidewinder (1992). He also performed in Tokyo with George Russell's Living Time Orchestra ( Live in Tokyo , 1988). He also played with the trio of Haruki Mino ( Sunflower ) and led his own wind ensemble, the Shin Kazuhara Group , with which he played in studio sessions with the King Symphonic Orchestra ( Symphony Ys , 1980) and also accompanied the singer Junko Yagami ( Album Mr.メ ト ロ ポ リ ス, 1980). As a session musician, he also worked with J-Pop musician Yasuyuki Okamura as well as with pop, R&B and funk vocalists Mizuki Koyama ( Angel's Dream ), Masaki Matsubara and Kiichi Yokoyama . In the 1990s he played with Takashi Ohi , Shoji Suzuki & The Rhythm Ace and with Jun Miyake . In the field of jazz, Tom Lord lists him in 33 recording sessions between 1973 and 2001, most recently with singer Akiko ( Upstream , Verve). In 1997 his album Trumpet Major was released.

In the 2000s, Kazuhara was on recordings for Toshiyuki Honda , Kenji Kawai and Yuko Ishikawa, and on the scores for Robotic Angel (2001, directed by Rintaro ), Trapped Ashes (2006, directed by Sean S. Cunningham / Joe Dante ) and Sukai kurora ( 2008, directed by Mamoru Oshii ). In 1999 Bravo Music and Rundel Verlag published a medley arrangement by Kazuhara (about compositions by Kazuhiro Morita , Takashi Hoshide , Masato Myokoin and Naohiro Iwai ) as Samba De Loves You - New Perspectives for Fine Wind Bands .
