Njord (formerly Arctic Ocean )

The Type 156 is a container feeder vessel type of Sietas in Neuenfelde . In 1995 three units of this series were built, two more were delivered in autumn 2000.

history

The Njord (formerly Arctic Ocean )

The model ship of the series is the Nova , which was ordered by the Cuxhaven- based correspondent shipping company Rainer Fred August Drevin for the partner shipping company MS "Nova" Rainer Drevin KG. Her keel was laid on June 24, 1994. The ship was on 18 October 1995 by the stack , completed on November 15, his test drive and was delivered by Sietas on 18 November 1995th After various charters, it was sold to the Estonian shipping company Amisco on April 26, 2006 for a purchase price of € 12.55 million and was named Pirita .

The correspondent shipping company Heinz Freese from Drochtersen commissioned the second and third ship for the Stade- based partner shipping companies MS "Arctic Fox" Heinz & Kai Freese KG and MS "Arctic Ocean" Heinz & Kai Freese KG. The Arctic Ocean was delivered on December 8, 1995, the Arctic Fox on January 4, 1996. The Dutch group of companies JR Shipping acquired both ships in the summer of 2007 and used them under the names Electra and Elusive . In July 2012 they were sold separately. The Electra (formerly Artic Fox ) went to the shipping company Oost Atlantic Lijn and was named Atlantic Coast . The Elusive (formerly Artic Ocean ) was taken over by the shipping company Visser Shipping and renamed Njord .

At the end of the 1990s, the correspondent shipping company Rainer Fred August Drevin ordered the Maike , another type 156 ship. The owner was the shipping company MS "Neubau 1151" GmbH & Co. KG. The Maike was chartered to the British shipping company Borchard Lines before completion and delivered on November 3, 2000 by the shipyard as Katherine Borchard . After the end of this charter, she was given the name Maike D in June 2002 .

The last ship of the series was ordered by the correspondent shipping company Gerd Bartels from Neu Wulmstorf for the MS "Jessica" Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG. The Jessica was also chartered to Borchard Lines before its completion. She was delivered on December 2, 2000 as Lucy Borchard . From October 2002 Reederei Bartels started using the ship as Jessica B herself. It was taken over by the Russian Kamchatka Shipping Company in August 2016 and given the name Ivan Kapralov . Since then, the ship has been in liner service between Vladivostok and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (as of June 2019).

technology

The ships of the type 156, built in section construction, are around 133.00 meters long and 18.70 meters wide. They have reinforced hulls and are designed for ice thicknesses of up to 80 centimeters ( ice class E3). The carrying capacity of the individual units varies between 7,946  dwt ( Nova ) and 8,002 dwt ( Arctic Ocean ). You can transport up to 660  20-foot standard containers (TEU) or alternatively up to 327 40-foot standard containers (FEU). With an average weight of 14 t per container, a maximum of 405 TEU may be loaded for reasons of stability.

The Type 156 has four box-shaped cargo holds with hydraulic folding hatch covers . The holds are equipped with cell guides and have a capacity of 206 TEU or alternatively 100 FEU. A transport of containers with special dimensions is possible, whereby a total of up to 117 45-foot containers (87 of them on deck) or up to 451 30-foot containers (344 of which on deck) can be stowed. There are connections for 100 reefer containers on deck . The tank ceiling of cargo holds 1 and 2 can be loaded with 96 t per TEU stack (136 t per FEU stack), that of cargo holds 3 and 4 with 81 t per TEU stack (102 t per FEU stack). The hatch covers are designed for a load of 45 t per TEU stack (65 t per FEU stack).

The ships are powered by a 6,600  kW marine diesel engine of the type MaK 6M601C, which acts on a controllable pitch propeller via a reduction gear . They have an electrically powered bow thruster with 720 kW output for berthing and casting off maneuvers . There are two diesel generators and a shaft generator on board to generate electricity. An emergency generator was also installed.
