The Type 58 is a container feeder vessel type of Sietas in Neuenfelde .

history

The Baltic Concord 1969 in the Kiel Canal

The series was ordered by various shipping companies and built in 23 units from 1968 to 1971. Initially, the ships were mainly used on European container delivery services, where they soon became a standard type of ship, and later in timber and bulk cargo shipping. Today the remaining ships can be found worldwide in coastal travel.

technology

The Decimal was subsequently given a second wheelhouse raised

The individual loading space with a grain volume of 2,433 m³ has a hatch size of 40.20 meters by 7.60 meters and is equipped for the transport of containers and the transport of dangerous goods containers. The standard equipment with Cellguides was dispensed with. Due to the shape of the hold, this type of ship can also be used for cellulose or wood parcel shipping. In addition, the tank roof is reinforced for stowing heavy goods . Heavy cargo reinforced hatch covers from the McGregor system were used. Initially, the ships with a volume of 499  GRT were measured, later the ships were measured as swap bodies with 499 GRT as free deck and 999 GRT as full deck, the buildings from 1970 onwards were predominantly measured as full decks with 999 GRT. The measurement as a full-decker allowed a 700-tonne payload. Some ships were subsequently given a second wheelhouse raised in the front area of the funnel, which allowed an improved line of sight and thus the loading of a second layer of containers on deck.

The ships in the series are powered by four-stroke diesel engines from the manufacturers Klöckner Humboldt Deutz and MaK, which in the majority of ships act on a fixed propeller , which on some ships is combined with a Kort nozzle . During construction, the ships did not have a bow thruster to support the docking and casting off maneuvers.
