Type 95a ( Trabant )

The type 95 is a multi-purpose cargo ship type from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde .

history

Liquid gas tanker Yara Gas I (ex Este )

The series was ordered by various shipping companies from the mid-1970s and manufactured in 26 units from 1977 to 1980. 16 ships of the basic type 95, six of the subtype 95a, two of the subtype 95b and one each of the subtypes 95c and 95d were built. Depending on the construction variant, the ships were often used as container feeders on European container delivery services until the 1990s , where they became a standard size. They were also used in bulk and timber transport. Today the Type 95 is sold worldwide in coastal travel.

Some ships were subsequently converted to use them for other purposes. 1988 started with the the cement carrier upgraded Horn Baltic . The Este was converted into liquid gas tankers in 1989 and the Britta in 1992 specifically for the transport of carbon dioxide . The Anja was in 2016 by the company bakkafrost acquired. After a complete renovation, during which the superstructures were also removed, she is used as a non-propulsion special ship Høvdabogi in the company's own salmon farms on the Faroe Islands . In 2018 the Filipino JBL Martime Vanguard Services bought the former Passat and let it become the training ship Capt. John B. Lacson remodel. In spring 2019, the conversion of the then 42-year-old former Jörn Dede resulted in the cattle transporter Banyas 1 .

Several Type 95 ships were built at the Norderwerft , which at the time belonged to the Sietas Group. The hull of the Frey , which was launched on May 23, 1980 and was then completed at the Sietas shipyard, was the Norderwerft's last newbuild until it was delivered to the Osnabrück in 1996.

technology

The Kiekeberg (Type 95b)

The ships of the series were created in section construction and were manufactured in different variants. They are driven by four-stroke diesel engines from various manufacturers, which on some ships have a reversing gear on a fixed propeller, but on the majority of ships they act on a controllable pitch propeller . Most ships were equipped with a bow thruster . In addition, several units received a Kort jet rudder .

Type 95

The basic type 95, designed as a multi-purpose cargo ship, is 71.97 m long, 12.80 m wide and 6.80 m high from the keel to the upper deck . The maximum draft is 4.45 m. The basic type has a load capacity of around 2,040  dwt . The individual box-shaped loading space has a grain volume of 3,197 m³ (3,122 m³ ball space). Due to the shape of the hold, this type of ship can also be used for cellulose or wood parcel shipping. The tank ceiling is reinforced for stowing heavy goods . Hydraulically operated folding hatch covers reinforced with heavy cargo were used. The hatch size is 43.80 m × 10.20 m. A maximum of 127 20-foot standard containers (TEU) can be stowed on board,  53 TEU of which in the hold and 74 TEU on deck. Alternatively, up to 58 40-foot standard containers (FEU) can be transported, including 34 FEU on deck, plus 5 TEU.

Type 95a

The sub-type 95a was created by extending the basic type 95. It has a total length of 79.77 m (74.50 m Lpp ). The carrying capacity of the multi-purpose cargo ships varies slightly and is between 2,213 dwt ( Holger ) and 2,291 dwt ( Süderelv ). Up to 149 TEU can be stowed on board. The Hans Lehmann was lengthened to 94.77 m (90.40 m Lpp) through a conversion in September 1988. The converted ship has a deadweight of 3,182 dwt and a capacity of 185 TEU.

Type 95b

The sub-type 95b has been designed as a mini-bulker and is primarily designed for the transport of bulk goods . The two ships built were measured with 343 GRT and a maximum draft of 3.77 m on delivery . They are 71.40 m (65.15 m Lpp) long and 6.00 m high from the keel to the upper deck. The side height is 80 centimeters lower than that of the basic type 95 and was partly offset by a higher hatch coaming . The subtype 95b received a modified deckhouse to save weight . The carrying capacity of the Kiekeberg is 1,491 dwt, the carrying capacity of Table Mountain is 1,582 dwt.

Type 95c

The dimensions of sub-type 95c are identical to those of sub-type 95a. However, it has a higher hatch coaming, which means that the grain volume could be increased to 4,564 m³ (4,296 m³ ball space). Up to 145 TEU can be stowed on board. The only ship built, the Melton Challenger , was originally measured at 991 GRT and 2,208 dwt when it was delivered in 1980. In the 1990s there was a new measurement with 2,195 GT and 3,041 dwt. From 2006, the ship was primarily used as a minibulker and was equipped with a movable dredger for this purpose .

Type 95d

The sub-type 95d, designed as a multi-purpose cargo ship, is based on the sub-type 95b and, like this, is 71.40 m long (but at 66.46 m Lpp). In contrast to the sub-type 95b, it received reinforced hatch covers so that two layers of containers can be stowed on deck. The only built ship, the Frey , was measured on delivery with 499 GRT, 1,644 dwt and a maximum draft of 3.93 m. In 1994 a new measurement was carried out with 1,710 GT and 2,540 dwt.
