Type 155b ( Herm Kiepe )

The type 155 is a container ship type from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde . From August 1996 to November 1997 five units of this series were produced, two of which were of the subtype 155a and three of the subtype 155b.

history

The Jork- based correspondent shipping company Harry Bröhan awarded the Sietas shipyard the construction contract for two multi-purpose container ships equipped with loading cranes , owned by the partner shipping companies MS "Osnabrück" GmbH & Co. KG and MS "Münster" GmbH & Co. KG . Even before construction began, both ships were chartered out for three years to the Hamburg shipping company Deco-Line Peter Determann KG, which had set up a liner service to West Africa in 1995 and was to receive the ships in autumn 1996. Because the Sietas shipyard was at full capacity at that time, it outsourced the construction of the Osnabrück type ship to the Norderwerft , which at the time belonged to the Sietas group and had last delivered its own new building in 1980. The keel of the Osnabrück was laid on August 26, 1996 in Dock 1 of the Norderwerft, and it floated up on October 19. The ship was christened on October 26th, 1996 by Christa Fip, wife of the then Mayor of Osnabrück, Hans-Jürgen Fip . Deco-Line started using the Osnabrück on November 11, 1996 in liner service between Hamburg and Abidjan ( Ivory Coast ), usually calling at Felixstowe (Great Britain), Antwerp (Belgium) and Dakar ( Senegal ), and on the return journey also Amsterdam (Netherlands) .

The four other 155 units were built at the Sietas shipyard. However, the ships could not be fully assembled there because otherwise they would not have fit through the passage of the Estes barrier, which was only 22 meters wide at the time . The double-hulled ships were therefore towed to the Norderwerft with the inner hull already closed, but the outer hull amidships still missing , where they were completed. The second ship of the subtype 155a, the Münster , arrived on November 23, 1996 for completion at the Norderwerft. It was christened on December 14th by the mayor of Münster , Marion Tüns , and from December 19, 1996, she was deployed on a liner service to West Africa together with Osnabrück . In the summer of 1998 both ships were transferred to the newly founded West-Afrika Linien-Dienst GmbH & Co. KG, where they ran as Ubangi and Ulanga until 2001 . After being chartered separately to MSC and APL , they were used as feeder ships in Southeast Asia under their original names . In 2012 an Indonesian shipping company bought the Osnabrück and renamed it Meratus Batam . The minster was scrapped in Chittagong ( Bangladesh ) in March 2014 .

The first two ships of the subtype 155b, Husky Runner and Husky Racer , gave the Hamburg-based contract shipping company Quadrant Bereederungs GmbH in order, which as well as the actual owner companies to Martens group of companies owned. Both ships were initially chartered to the Danish Mærsk Line and delivered in the spring of 1997 without loading cranes as Maersk Helsinki and Maersk Paranagua . From November 1997 to August 1998 the Husky Racer was used under the name Aachen together with the two ships of the subtype 155a for Deco-Line in the liner service to West Africa and was subsequently given loading cranes. The ship was then chartered again, initially temporarily and from March 2000 long-term, to Mærsk Line, where it ran as Maersk Jarry until early 2004 and then as Maersk Rijeka until March 2009 . The third ship of the subtype 155b, the Herm Kiepe , was ordered by the Kiepe-Schepers KG shipping company from Haren / Ems . The owner of the ship was Schepers Global Containerschiff KG. The Herm Kiepe was delivered on December 14, 1997 and put into service one day later.

The shipping company Patjens, based in Drochtersen , initially acquired the Husky Runner in 2011 and the two other ships of the subtype 155b in 2013. After which they were named Renate P , Barbara P and Leonie P .

The double-hulled ships, made in section construction, are 139.05 meters long and 23.90 meters wide. They have four box-shaped holds with hatch covers . With the exception of the Husky Runner , the ships each have two loading cranes with a maximum load capacity of 45 t. All five units of a 10,000  kW paid marine diesel engine of the type MaK driven 8M 601C, via a reduction gear to a variable pitch propeller acts. They have an electrically powered bow thruster with 750 kW output for berthing and casting off maneuvers . There are three diesel generators and a shaft generator on board to generate electricity. An emergency generator was also installed.

Type 155a

The two ships of the sub-type 155a have a deadweight of 13,402 dwt and have an intermediate deck with pontoon lids  in the holds . The area below the intermediate deck is intended for the transport of general cargo . The ships can transport up to 910 20-foot standard containers (TEU) or alternatively up to 445 40-foot containers (FEU). It is also possible to transport containers with special dimensions (30 and 45 feet). With an average weight of 14 t per container, a maximum of 700 TEU may be loaded for reasons of stability. There are connections for 174 refrigerated containers on board . The type 155a has been classified for cruising in ice-free waters or for very light ice conditions ( ice class E).

Type 155b

The sub-type 155b has a reinforced hull and is designed for ice thicknesses of up to 80 centimeters (ice class E3). The Husky Runner , which is delivered without loading cranes, has a load capacity of 13,455 dwt, the Husky Racer of 13,273 dwt. Both ships have a container capacity of 942 TEU each. The Herm Kiepe has a load-bearing capacity of 13,059 dwt and a volume of 17,372 m³. It has been partially equipped with Cellguides and has a capacity of 977 TEU or 450 FEU plus 76 TEU. The ships of the sub-type 155b are suitable for the transport of containers with special dimensions (30 and 45 feet). There are connections for 210 refrigerated containers on board.
