Sigurður Sveinn Sigurðsson (born February 24, 1976 ) is an Icelandic ice hockey player who has been playing again at Skautafélag Akureyrar in the Icelandic ice hockey league since 2005 .

Career

Sigurður Sigurðsson began his career at Skautafélag Akureyrar , for which he also mostly played. He only left his home club twice when he played at Skautafélag Reykjavíkur in the Icelandic capital from 1998 to 2000 and at Narfi frá Hrísey on the Akureyri island of Hrísey in 2004/05 . With Skautafélag Akureyrar he won the Icelandic championship a total of 13 times (1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016) . There are also two titles with Skautafélag Reykjavíkur (1999 and 2000). This makes him one of the most successful Icelandic ice hockey players.

International

For the Icelandic men's national team , Sigurður Sigurðsson first played at the D-World Championships in 1999 and 2000 and after changing to the current division system at the World Championships of Division II in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . After a temporary relegation, he joined the Northmen in 2004 in Division III and achieved immediate promotion.

In addition to his active career, he was team manager for the Icelanders at the U20 World Championships in 2002 , 2003 and 2012 and at the Men's World Championships in 2013 , 2017 and 2018 . In the 2016 Olympic qualification for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang and the 2016 World Cup , he was assistant coach for the Icelandic men.
