Silver Snakes is an American punk and rock band from Los Angeles , California that formed in 2011.

history

The band was formed in 2011 after Alex Estrada's previous hardcore punk band Cathedrals broke up. Silver Snakes consisted of singer and guitarist Estrada, bassist Mike Trujillo, guitarist Jeremiah Bignell and drummer Garrett Harney. This was followed by their debut album Pictures of a Floating World in 2012, followed by Year of the Snake in 2014 and Saboteur in 2016 . On the latter album Tomas Lilkedahl from The Old Wind can be heard as a guest singer. The sound carrier was released in the USA on Evil Ink Records , the label of Coheed and Cambria member Claudio Sanchez . In Europe it was released on Pelagic Records . In their career, the band has performed with Harvard , Broadway Calls , Sainthood Reps , Defeater , Junius , Coheed and Cambria, Braid , Balance and Composure , Shiner , Touché Amoré , Narrows and La Dispute and has appeared on Sound and among others Fury Festival , the Fun Fun Fun Nights and the South by Southwest .

style

Allmusic's Neil Z. Yeung wrote that the band plays hard rock that was influenced by the alternative rock scene in the 1990s. In addition to hardcore punk, Estrada was influenced by Latin American music and industrial . Sleep , Tool , Nine Inch Nails and Ministry were godfathers for the latter . On the debut album Pictures of a Floating World the group sounds like At the Drive-In from 2001. On Year of the Snake the band is harder and slower and turned towards the sludge . On Saboteur the industrial influences increased and synthesizer influences were added, so that there are similarities to the late Deftones . The band biography on yearofthesnakes.com lists Estrada's influences with Lola Beltrán , Godflesh and Ministry as influences. Saboteur was influenced by Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral and Sleeps Dopesmoker . According to laut.de , the band is “just as close to alternative stadium rock as it is to atmospheric post metal”, while Nine Inch Nails is just as much an influence as Sleep. The electric guitars only play power chords , while the drums are slow and the vocals are stirring. The music sounds superficially simple, but is structured progressively. On the albums, “ Metal - shouts to fragile urban post- psychedelic , drum'n'bass echoes on oppressive stone walls ” would be strung together.

Melanie Aschenbrenner from Metal Hammer wrote in her review of Saboteur that it was borrowed from Deftones and Nine Inch Nails. The song Glass shows influences from industrial rock of the 1990s, while Charmer has parallels to songs by Ministry. The album lives from the tension between discouragement and departure as well as insight and aggression.
