Silvestro Cardinal Belli

Silvestro Belli (also Silvester Belli ; born December 29, 1781 in Anagni , † September 9, 1844 in Jesi ) was a Catholic bishop and cardinal .

Career

He came from a patrician family and studied law in Rome. He then entered the service of the Curia . Pope Pius VIII appointed him on July 2, 1830, House Prelate of His Holiness . After various offices at the tribunals of the Roman Curia, he was successively Apostolic Delegate in Benevento , Orvieto and Fermo . Back in Rome, he was made canon of the Vatican Basilica on June 29, 1834 .

Pope Gregory XVI created Silvestro Belli in the consistory of December 1840 in pectore as cardinal. This survey was published on July 12, 1841 and Belli was admitted to the College of Cardinals as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Balbina .

On January 24, 1842, he was appointed bishop of Jesi . The episcopal ordination donated him the cardinal bishop of Porto and Santa Rufina , Carlo Maria Pedicini , on 24 February of the same year; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Fabio Maria Asquini , Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Regulars , and Curia Bishop Stefano Scerra .

Silvestro Cardinal Belli died at the age of 62 and was buried in the Cathedral of Jesi.
