Simmershausen is a district of the town of Römhild in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

geography

The structure of Simmershausen, in contrast to z. B. zu Gleicherwiesen or Gleichamberg , a street village and has about 290 inhabitants. In the south of the village, the Milz river runs from east to west.

history

The first written mention of the place goes back to the year 874 under the name "Sigimareshusun". From 1888 to 1946 there was a rail connection to Hildburghausen and Lindenau via Heldburg . The structure of the center is still very well preserved and dates from the 9th and 10th centuries. In 1993 the center of Simmershausen was placed under monument protection by the Thuringian state administration. On March 23 of the same year, the place was incorporated into the community of Gleichamberg.

Worth seeing

The core of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Mary dates back to 1514. The church and the rectory were walled and enclosed by a moat. At that time it was built as a fortified church and served as the last refuge for the residents of the time. The nave was built in 1881/82.

To the former " LPG Simmershausen", which is now the "Zuchtzentrum Gleichamberg e. G. “counts, belonged a small field with a runway, which was designed for agricultural aircraft in the GDR times . The model flying club “MFC Hildburghausen e. V. “leased the runway in 1994, and since then the members have been using their model airplanes and helicopters there.
