Simon Sez is an action comedy directed by Kevin Elders in 1999. It was created in a German-Belgian-US co-production.

action

Simon Sez works as an agent for Interpol , supported by his assistants Micro and Macro. His focus is on the machinations of the gunsmith Ashton, who tries to close a deal with Colonel Jacques Telore. The Colonel changed his mind at short notice. Meanwhile, young Claire and young Michael spend the holiday season together in Simon's adopted country of France. Claire came to France as an exchange student and fell in love with Michael. However, his father Bernard Gabrielli, head of a movement that wants Corsica to become independent from France, holds Claire hostage without her knowledge. He demands a secret CD-ROM from Claire's father, William Fence, in exchange for his daughter. Nick Miranda should deliver the CD. Shortly before the handover, Nick runs into Simon, whom he knows from before. Simon prevents the handover of the suitcase with the CD, which contains encrypted data from the US Department of Defense. In order not to endanger Claire's life, Simon Nick promises to free Claire on his own.

With Nick's amateurish help, Simon manages to kidnap Claire. She reacts angry because she wanted to stay with Michael. She can't believe Michael's father wanted to hold her hostage and breaks out of Simon's property at night. Ashton's men kidnap her and ask her father to hand over the CD. Ashton can also get the Colonel to hand him a long desired weapon: The portable laser has a great destructive power, but can only work with the associated software, which is on the CD. William Fence out of necessity hands the CD to Ashton. Numerous people are now teaming up to free Claire and get the data CD back: Simon, Nick, Micro and Macro, Claire's friend Michael and Simon's ex, a counter-agent who has fought the group so far. Together they manage to free Claire and destroy the CD and the laser, whereby Ashton is also killed. He had tried to the last to destroy the Paris Eiffel Tower with the laser . Nick, who was rejected by the FBI for incompetence, is now receiving his first individual assignment from the secret service. Simon Sez and his ex get back together and Claire and Michael get married.

criticism

"Except for a few passable action scenes, this is a pitiful film, whose caustic humor shouldn't be for everyone," judged the film service . "Rodman [...] stalks woodenly through the scenes, and Cook is annoying as a Jim Carrey copy," summarized Cinema . In the film “a thin story about kidnapping and arms trafficking joins at best passable action scenes,” wrote the Hamburger Abendblatt , while the Saarbrücker Zeitung found that “it [says] a lot about the film when the athlete Rodman is far from the worst actor is. ”The film contains“ pointless dialogues, unimaginatively staged action scenes and a pesky supporting actor ”. Die Welt wrote that the film was confused, but that Dennis Rodman was acting “straightforward, cool and straightforward”; In addition, top model Emma Sjöberg tries "not so unsuccessfully" as an actress.

Awards

Dennis Rodman was nominated Worst Newcomer of the Decade for Simon Sez and Double Team in 2000 for a Golden Raspberry .
