Siobhan
Siobhán (Irish pronunciation [ ˈʃɪwɑːn̪ ] or [ ʃəˈvɑːn̪ ], English pronunciation [ ʃəˈvɔːn ]) or Siobhan is a female Irish given name . It is derived from Hebrew and means "God is gracious".
Origin and meaning
Siobhán is derived from the Norman Jehanne and French Jeanne , the feminine form of Jean , which is derived from the Hebrew language. It was introduced in Ireland when the Normans ruled the country. The name fell into disuse when the use of the Irish language became a criminal offense. Its popularity rose in the mid-20th century, as did many other Irish names such as Áine and Aoife . The celebrity of the actress Siobhán McKenna also contributed to the fact that the name was brought back to mind.
