action

One day Maura Ellis's parents tell her on the phone that they are planning to sell their house and they ask Maura and her older sister Kate to come to Orlando to clean out their teenage rooms themselves. Kate is currently unemployed and has no apartment of her own. Her daughter Haley stays with a friend without telling her mother exactly where she is.

Maura can convince her sister to come to her parents without telling her that they want to sell the house. Kate agrees to come to Orlando with her planning to temporarily live with her parents with her daughter.

When Kate and Maura arrive at their parents' house, they have already sold the house and are in the middle of moving. Kate and Maura decide to have a farewell party at their parents' house and invite a lot of friends from their past.

Maura is able to persuade Kate not to drink that evening and to take on the role of the party mother and take care of everyone. Kate agrees because she wants to prove that she can be responsible. The first guests arrive unexpectedly on time and the party is pretty quiet at the beginning. When the first ones want to leave again, Kate manages to get the party going. There is a lot of drinking and dancing.

Maura retires to the attic with the nice neighbor to smoke a joint. However, the two break through the ceiling and land on the floor below.

When Maura asks the guests to put their stamp on the house, the party finally gets out of hand. Kate is desperate to keep order at the party and eventually calls the police to end the party. However, since the policeman knows Maura from the past, he wishes them a lot of fun and drives again. When Kate loses control of the party, she also starts drinking alcohol.

Kate finds out that her daughter has been living with Maura for the past few months, and Kate and Maura fight. Now the parents of the two show up and end the party.

The next morning the big tidying up begins. Kate manages to convince her parents not to sell the house for the time being and to let her and her daughter live in the house temporarily to repair the damage to the house. Kate manages to put the house back in order. The house is eventually sold.

publication

The film was shown in US cinemas from September 18, 2015 and in German cinemas from February 11, 2016.

reception

The film received mixed reviews, earning 60% critics and 52% audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes . The acting was praised by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, but the plot and humor were rated rather negatively.

The film service ruled: “The dull 40 plus variant of relevant teen comedies about two foul, still not grown-up women does not lead to a reversal of conventions customary in the genre, rather disappoints with inconsistent and unbelievable characters in their exaggeration. The dry humor of the supporting characters alone gives the film a quieter, funnier rhythm. "
