Coordinates: 64 ° 45 '  N , 20 ° 57'  E Skellefteå is a municipality ( Swedish commun ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the historic province of Västerbotten . The main town of the municipality is Skellefteå .

Other localities are Bergsbyn , Boliden , Bureå , Burträsk , Byske , Drängsmark , Ersmark , Jörn , Klutmark , Kusmark , Kåge , Lövånger , Medle , Ostvik , Skelleftehamn , Ursviken , Örviken and others. The European route E04 as well as the Reichsstrasse 95 and the regional route 364 lead through the municipality .

geography

The community extends about 110 kilometers along the Baltic Sea coast and up to 80 kilometers inland. The municipality is divided by the Skellefte älv , which flows into the Gulf of Bothnia at Skellefteå . In the municipality is the Skelleftefeld made of volcanic rocks that contain gold, silver and copper. In the north the municipality is traversed by the Byskeälven .

economy

The parish is a traditional mining and industrial parish . Although the original Boliden mine has been closed, there are four other pits in the Boliden area that produce zinc, copper, gold and lead. They belong to the company Boliden AB , which also operates a smelting plant in Rönnskär. Other industrial locations are the main town Skellefteå, Bygdsiljum, Skega and Ersmark. There is a larger export port in Skelleftehamn.

Attractions

• Sweden's longest, oldest wooden bridge still in use stands in the direction of the Rovön recreational area.
• In Varuträsk between Skellefteå and Boliden there is a mineral park with exhibitions and guided tours on mining.
• Bjuröklubb : A nature reserve that also includes archaeological educational trails.
• The power plant museum in Finnfors on Skellefteå shows the technology of the first power plant in Skellefteå.
