Skins is an American teen drama . The series is a remake of the British original of the same name. Similar to the British version, in this version the cast and staff consists of a number of unknown, inexperienced actors and authors .

The first episode was broadcast on January 17, 2011 by the US television station MTV . The German-language first broadcast took place on July 3, 2011 on MTV Germany . The series finale aired in the United States on March 21, 2011.

The series sparked a controversy over sexual content in the United States that resulted in the exit of several advertisers. A major allegation was that of child pornography , as the majority of the actors were under 18 years of age. For this reason, MTV announced on July 9, 2011 that there would be no second season because the audience in the United States did not jump on the show as they had hoped.

action

The series is about a clique consisting of eight students from the high school "River Mountains High". Tony Snyder is considered to be the leader of the group. The focus of the plot is on a different person in each episode.

characters

The main characters in Skins are eight students from River Mountains High, who together form a clique. In addition, the sister of the leader of the group is one of the main characters.

description

Tony Snyder

Tony Snyder is the group leader at the beginning of the series and is in a relationship with Michelle. However, his power and popularity begins to crumble when it is revealed that he has cheated on Michelle several times with Tea and other girls. Only at the end of the series does he notice how much his friends mean to him, especially Stanley and his sister Eura, and how difficult it is for him to break up with his friends.

Tea Marvelli

Tea Marvelli is a shrewd person, but confused about her sexual orientation. She is a lesbian and not interested in a relationship at the beginning of the series. Tea sleeps twice with Tony and is therefore largely responsible for the group breaking up. By betraying Michelle and the group, she splits off from the clique. At the end of the series, she tries to have a relationship with Betty, a girl who has previously shown an interest in Tea.

Chris Collins

Chris Collins is the party animal, or the "monkey man" as he calls himself, of the group. Most of the time, he's loud, drunk, or high . His mother left him without warning, leaving him only $ 1,000 . He is very good friends with Abbud, with whom Chris can also spend the night. Chris tries to get together with Tina Nolan, a high school teacher, until she leaves him and moves to another city.

Cadie Campbell

Cadie Campbell is manic , depressed , suicidal, and anorexic . She has strong feelings for Stanley at first, but later loses interest in him. She eventually gets together with a sporty man, but the two split up again because he is moving. Her feelings for Stanley come back, but she lets him go for Michelle.

Stanley Lucerne

Stanley Lucerne is a lazy and insecure student who is often in Tony's shadow, but Tony is his best friend and role model. When Stanley's parents separated, he found the courage to tell his father what he thought of his behavior for the first time. Throughout the season, Stanley was torn between feelings for Cadie and Michelle. In the end, in contrast to the British version, he chooses Michelle.

Abbud Siddiqui

Abudd Siddiqui is a caring and happy person who is difficult to get down. He is often preoccupied with the feelings for tea, but has no success with it. He has a sexual relationship with Daisy. However, the two gradually develop feelings for each other and eventually come together at the end of the series.

Michelle "Chelle" Richardson

Michelle Richardson is in a relationship with Tony at the beginning of the series. Tony doesn't take her feelings seriously though and only uses her as a good looking friend. After Michelle learns that Tony is cheating on her, she breaks up with him. After the breakup, Michelle gets closer to her former best friend Stanley, whom she had known since childhood. At the end of the series, she chooses Stanley and realizes what is best for her. Michelle is very intelligent and soulful, but she shows little.

Daisy Valero

Daisy Valero is a helpful person and often takes care of her friends' problems. She lives with her father and sister in an apartment , her mother has left her. She is a very talented trumpeter and dreams of becoming famous one day. She meets Abbud at the end of the series.

Eura Snyder

Eura Snyder is Tony's younger sister and does not speak . Tony often helps her sneak into and out of the house unnoticed. She only begins to speak at the series finale.

Changes to the British version

Apart from the fact that all surnames and some first names of the characters have been changed, the characters in the American version are almost identical to the British version. The only character that was adopted without modification is Michelle Richardson. The biggest change is the character Tea Marvelli, a lesbian cheerleader who replaces the gay boy named Maxie Oliver from the British version.

All changes to the main characters are listed below:

  • Tony Stonem from the British version has been changed to Tony Snyder
  • Maxxie Oliver from the British version has been changed to Tea Marvelli
  • Chris Miles from the British version has been changed to Chris Collins
