Skotarske ( Ukrainian Скотарське ; Russian Скотарское Skotarskoje , Slovak Szkotárszka , Hungarian Kisszolyva ) is a village in the north of the Ukrainian Zakarpattia Oblast with about 1400 inhabitants (2001).

history

The village, first mentioned in 1607 under the name Skotarske , changed its name several times under Hungarian rule: 1630 Skatarsky , 1645 Skotarski and 1773 Szkotárszka or Skotarska, and from 1913 on Kisszolyva .

The railway line was built in 1872 and in the same year construction began on a stone church building, which was consecrated in 1885. In 1889 Skotarske was united with the neighboring village of Swalyawa. Ivan Franko visited the village in 1895 when he was traveling from Budapest to Lviv . In 1910 the population was 1085, of whom 885 were Russians , 120 Germans and 80 Hungarians. Most of them belonged to the Greek Catholic Church with 924 believers. Furthermore, 23 people were of the Protestant denomination and 120 were of Jewish faith.

Geographical location

The village is the only locality of the 29.587 km² district council of the same name in the northeast of Wolowez Rajon .

The town is its Waldkarpaten southwest of Volovets Pass at 653  m height at the upper reaches of the Wytscha ( Вича ), a left tributary of the Latorica , 8 km northeast of the Rajonzentrum Volovets and about 100 km west of the Oblastzentrum Uzhhorod .

The Lviv – Stryj – Chop railway runs through Skotarske and connects the village with Oporez in the Lviv Oblast via the Beskyd Tunnel .
