Small Planet Airlines was a Polish charter airline based in Warsaw and a subsidiary of the Lithuanian Small Planet Group .

history

Small Planet Airlines Poland was founded in 2010 as the successor company to FlyLAL Charters Polska . Flight operations began with a Boeing 737-300 and in March 2011 the company received the group's first Airbus A320-200 . Seven more Airbus A320-200s had been taken over by 2015, followed by four Airbus A321-200s from the Russian Aeroflot portfolio in 2016 ; in return, two older Airbus A320-200s were handed over to the Lithuanian sister company .

At the beginning of 2018, two more Airbus A321-200s were taken over by Monarch Airlines , so that the fleet comprised a total of twelve machines. Small Planet Airlines Poland carried vacationers to popular destinations in the Mediterranean region on behalf of various tour operators and carried out special flights for various clients. Its market share on the Polish charter market in 2017 was almost 30 percent, it carried around 1.2 million passengers and was the market leader in Poland at that time.

Due to the insolvency of the sister company Small Planet Airlines Deutschland , the company also ran into difficulties in September 2018, as several aircraft were to be operated for them in the winter season. In a very short time the fleet was reduced from 13 to one machine, so that it was no longer possible to carry out all the planned flights. Many tour operators had then to other airlines, including Ryanair, the Polish subsidiary Ryanair Sun , fall back. According to the management's statement, further reasons for the financial difficulties were the late delivery of the two Airbus A321-200s by AerCap and a tense crew situation.

On the evening of October 8, 2018, it became known that Small Planet Airlines Poland also had to file for bankruptcy, which is taking place in the form of restructuring proceedings under Polish law. Small Planet Airlines Poland finally ceased operations on November 9, 2018.

Small Planet Airlines Poland's fleet last consisted of an aircraft that was 19.6 years old:

In summer 2018 the fleet consisted of six Airbus A320-200 and six Airbus A321-200 . In addition, various wet- lease aircraft were used in the summer season. From 2010 to the end of 2011, the company also operated a Boeing 737-300 , which was last used in wet lease for the Swedish company Tor Air .
