Eurolot (formerly euroLOT ) was a Polish regional airline based in Warsaw and based at the local Chopin Airport . It was a subsidiary of LOT .
history
The company was founded on December 19, 1996 and began flight operations on July 1, 1997. At first it was flown with its own flight plan and route network, but the decision was quickly made to work with the Polish state airline LOT . Therefore, eight ATR 72s including crews were leased from LOT. In 1998 Eurolot had two BAe Jetstream 31s in its fleet.
Since 2000, Eurolot flew exclusively for LOT and therefore also took over all remaining ATR machines from this. At the same time, the ATR 42-300 began to be replaced by the ATR 42-500 . The latter were also replaced later.
On June 8, 2010, the Polish Ministry of Defense rented two Embraer 175s from Eurolot in order to use them for the transportation of members of the government and the president. The Polish government opted for these machines after the government machine, a Tupolev Tu-154M , in the plane crash near Smolensk on April 10, 2010, in which President Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria Kaczynska as well as 94 other people consisting of high-ranking officers and politicians and clergymen were killed, destroyed. The contract between the government and Eurolot was valid until 2013. One of the two Embraer 175 was repainted in the Polish government colors.
On October 25, 2013, Eurolot retired their last ATR 72-200 .
At the beginning of February 2015 it was announced that Eurolot will cease operations from March 31, 2015. According to the Polish state as owner, no economically viable future prospects for the company were to be expected. The last flight was from Zurich to Krakow .
Destinations
Eurolot mainly served national destinations such as Krakow, Rzeszów , Poznan , Gdansk , Lublin and Wroclaw . In other European countries, for example, Zurich, Salzburg , Vienna , Munich , Düsseldorf , Stuttgart , Amsterdam , Paris-Beauvais , Paris Charles-de-Gaulle and Heringsdorf were served .
