SOFIM is an engine manufacturer belonging to Iveco . 1973 the diesel engine factory SOFIM ( Société franco-italienne de moteurs ) was founded in Foggia, Italy, together with Alfa Romeo and Saviem ( Renault ) . From 1974 diesel engines for small vans , tractors and cars were manufactured there, such as the SOFIM 8140 engine . In 1981 Iveco took over SOFIM. The total production number in 2008 was around 4 million engines. The factory in Foggia - with a total area of ​​around 540,000 m², in which over 2,000 employees work - is certified with ISO 9001 - Vision 2000 (process-controlled quality management) and ISO 14000 . More than 250,000 light diesel engines of the Iveco engine series 8100 and HPI are produced in this plant every year.

There are further SOFIM plants in Nanjing ( People's Republic of China ), where around 50,000 engines are manufactured per year, and in Sete Lagoas ( Brazil ; production around 40,000 engines per year).
