Solano is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Caquetá in Colombia .
geography
Solano occupies about 48% of the area of Caquetá with 42,486 km² and is the second largest municipality in Colombia. The urban center is about 170 km from Florencia at an altitude of 203 meters on the Río Caquetá and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. Solano lies at the transition to the Amazon region . Much of the Chiribiquete National Park and the Chorros de Araracuara rapids are located in the municipality . history
Solano was founded in 1936 by General José Dolores Solano on behalf of settlers in the region. Solano received the status of an Inspección de Policía (police inspection) in 1975 and was appointed a municipality in 1986.
economy
The main industry in Solano is agriculture . In particular, bananas, cassava, sugar cane and corn are grown. There is also animal husbandry and fishing .
traffic
There are two airports in the municipality of Solano. Tres Esquinas Airport, near the urban center, is reserved for military use only and is also used as a US military base . There is also a civil airport ( IATA code : SQF ), which is located near the town of Araracuara and is served by the Satena airline . Solano is not connected to the Colombian road network. Solano is connected by ship to the departments of Guaviare , Vaupés , Amazonas and Putumayo via the Caquetá and Orteguaza rivers .
