La Montanita is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Caquetá in Colombia .
geography
La Montañita is located in the west of Caquetá , about 32 km from Florencia at an altitude of 450 meters and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. La Montañita lies at the foot of the Andes at the transition to the Amazon region . The municipality borders in the north Florencia and El Paujil and Garzón in the Departamento del Huila , in the east El Paujil and Cartagena del Chairá , in the south Solano and in the west Milán and Florencia.

history
The first inhabitants of today's La Montañita were the Uitoto . The first European to set foot on the area was Hernán Pérez de Quesada in 1541 in search of Eldorado . The region was increasingly populated from around 1875 with the aim of extracting cinchona bark and rubber . The place itself was founded in 1941. La Montañita has had parish status since 1955.
economy
The main industry in La Montañita is cattle and milk production . The cultivation of cocoa also plays a certain role. Other agricultural products are corn , rice , sugar cane , bananas , cassava , coffee and fruit .

The urban center of la Montañita is 35 minutes from Florencia Airport. There is a connection to Florencia and the interior of the country via a trunk road.
