The Sony α6400 (model ILCE-6400) is a digital camera of the α-series of Sony , which was presented on 15 January of 2019. It is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera ( MILC ). It was designed as an update to the α6300 and was aimed at videographers when it was introduced. The list price for the case when it was launched was 789 euros (889 US dollars).

The camera has the same sensor as its sister camera α6500 and, like all models in the α6XXX series, has a resolution of 24 megapixels. At the time of release, the two most powerful cameras in the α6000 series were the α6400 and the α6500. In addition to the higher price, the α6500 differs from the α6400 through internal image stabilization and a larger image buffer. In contrast, the α6400 has features such as animal eye AF and autofocus tracking.

When it was announced, the manufacturer advertised the "fastest autofocus in the world" with a delay of 0.02 seconds and a series image recording of 11 images per second with series AF.

The α6400 also got an upgrade of the photo-sharing apps and the reintroduction of time-lapse videos via the menu.

The camera's flip-up display was seen as a feature for the vlogger community. In addition, the camera no longer has a limit on the recording time of videos. Some test reports point to the better heat dissipation of the camera, which prevents overheating with high processing requirements, for example with 4K recordings.

The camera was mostly positively discussed at the time of its introduction. The good autofocus was particularly emphasized. Some reviews of the camera criticize the lack of the new Z battery and the fact that the flip screen blocks the hot shoe.
