The Sony Alpha 7S II (internal ILCE 7SM2 = Interchangeable Lens Camera with E-mount 7 ) is a mirrorless system camera (DSLM) with full frame - image sensor , which has been available since October 2015 in the trade. It is the successor to the Sony Alpha 7S introduced in April 2014 . Due to the mirrorless system, the camera housing is relatively small despite the 35mm full format sensor and an interchangeable lens system. Sony is targeting this camera specifically to customers who have a high interest in video or photography in low light conditions.

Technical specifications

The Sony Alpha 7S II has an effective image resolution of 12.2 megapixels and uses the BIONZ X image processor to process the image data.Sony deliberately equipped the camera with a low number of pixels of 12 million in favor of the best-in-class noise behavior at high ISO values at the time (native to ISO 102,400, extended to ISO 409,600). As a result, it is optimized for situations with little light and is more sensitive to light than conventional system cameras.

The model has a fully electronic (and therefore absolutely silent) shutter release. The camera masters the XAVC-S video codec with details, 120 frames per second videos at 1080p , recordings in up to 4K , S-Log3 and other so-called picture profiles .

The camera housing has an E-mount connection. A total of 169 points are used for the autofocus. Nine central autofocus points are divided into 16 segments each and 25 contrast detection points are used for contrast measurement.

With the integrated Wi-Fi function, the Sony Alpha 7S II can be remotely controlled via a smartphone or other mobile device. Furthermore, the recordings can be transferred directly to mobile devices or suitable televisions as well as to a Wi-Fi-enabled computer. The built-in monitor and electronic viewfinder support live view with software magnifying glass and focus peaking .
