Sopchoppy is a city in Wakulla County in the US state of Florida with 457 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Sopchoppy is about 20 km southwest of Crawfordville and about 50 km southwest of Tallahassee . The city is located on the Ochlockonee River and adjoining the Ochlockonee River State Park to the south .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 457 inhabitants were distributed over 203 households. The population density was 117.2 inh / km². 71.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 25.2% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 2.4% said they belonged to several ethnic groups. 2.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.4% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 36.6% of all households. 63.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.98.

26.7% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 19.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 29.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 25.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 46.8% of the population were male and 53.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 36,250, with 15.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100% of the population.

The Old Sopchoppy High School gymnasium , the Sopchoppy School and Mount Beasor Primitive Baptist Church are in the National Register of Historic Places listed.
