Sophie and Virginie ( French: Sophie et Virginie ) is an animated series by author Jean Chalopin from 1990. There are a total of two seasons with 52 episodes.
Action of the 1st season
Sisters Sophie and Virginie Mercier lose their parents, two famous ethnologists , on an expedition in the African jungle after their plane crashes. Then the girls come to Madame Lassart's orphanage. They are initially not allowed to see each other there, but then manage to meet. While Sophie quickly makes new friends, including the young Paul, Virginie suffers a lot from the attacks of her classmates Nathalie and Nicole. Only her roommate Marie sticks to her. Sophie and Virginie both firmly believe that their parents are still alive.
Later, the girls get to know other important people, such as the journalist Catherine Dupuis and the researcher Frédéric Rochambeau, who are both interested in the disappearance of the Merciers and confront the sisters with the fact that their parents were persecuted by a mysterious organization, and the doctor Dr . Franck and the sports teacher Julien. These develop into confidants for the girls until it turns out that both belong to the organization and Dr. Franck is even their leader. Finally, the Mercier family reunited.
In the episode The Unreasonable Director , it turns out that Madame Lassart is widowed and that the founding of the orphanage was her late husband's great dream. Virginie learns this from the village pastor, who is friends with Madame Lassart and was also Monsieur Lassart's best friend, when Virgnie is looking after the sick headmistress in his house. He shows Virginie a photo of Monsieur Lassart. When Sophie and Virginie are supposed to clean up their office after the director's recovery before she comes back, which is a gift from Madame Lassart so that they can see each other, they see a picture of Monsieur Lassart hanging on the wall. Virginie tells Sophie who this man was and that she suspects Paul will look very much like him as an adult.
Action of the 2nd season
As the best in class at her university, Virginie wins a research trip to Africa. After the end of the last semester, she will take on this position with Catherine, Frédéric, Sophie and Paul. Sophie also secretly cheats on her dog Tudor. Immediately after arriving in Tanzania , Virginie hired the tour guide Malumba, who Frédéric soon found strange. It quickly turns out that a series of unfortunate coincidences such as ant attacks and diseases are no accident. As in the first season, Dr. Franck behind everything, including Malumba and the sorceress Ganola, are part of the organization whose goal is to capture Sophie and Virginie and reverse the polarity so that they can be used against their parents. After some struggles and hardships, the five expedition members, alongside a group of allies from the jungle, manage to defeat the organization, which ultimately also leads to the death of Malumba and the capture of Dr. Franck ends.
Production and publication
The series was produced in 1990 on behalf of the French broadcaster TF1 and was first broadcast in France from December 12, 1990, and in Italy from October 1993. In Germany, the series was part of the children's program “Vampy” (1993–2001) on RTL II .
Figures and synchronization
Sorted according to the order of occurrence.
Since the speakers in the original episodes - v. a. Concerning the first season - often changed (through), the following overview only lists the "main voices" through which a figure was most frequently synchronized. If several names are listed, speakers either followed one another, specifying the respective episode size, or alternated regularly. Other voices that have not been taken into account here are listed separately, including those for secondary characters who were given several voices and therefore no serious proportionality can be identified. The comment “diverse” then refers to this sub-category, in which all the voiced appearances of an episode are taken into account. If, on the other hand, the speaker of a figure is unknown, the corresponding column remains empty.
The few characters that can be heard consistently in the original with the same dubbing voice are Sophie , Virginie and Frédéric (across both seasons) as well as Killer Antoine , Malumba , Khartouk , Chief Zulanka , Dumari , (possibly Junko ), Boya and Katori (all season 2).
