Sophienstädt is a district of the Marienwerder community in the Barnim district in Brandenburg . Sophienstädt merged on May 1, 2001 with the neighboring Marienwerder to form today's municipality and was previously independent. The place belongs to the office of Biesenthal-Barnim .

location

Sophienstädt is located in the Barnim Nature Park , 14 kilometers as the crow flies west of the district town of Eberswalde and seven kilometers northwest of Biesenthal . When it was dissolved in 2001, the municipality of Sophienstädt only comprised 77 hectares, making the village one of the smallest municipalities in Germany. The Finowtal-Pegnitzfließ nature reserve is north of Sophienstädt . In the north, Sophienstädt borders on the Eiserbudersee and in the south-west on the Mittelprendensee . The Pegnitz river , via which the Eiserbudersee and the Mittelprendensee are connected, and the two trenches Eiserlaake and Papenlaake lie on the district itself .

The district of Sophienstädt borders in the north on the Marienwerder district, in the east and south on the district of Biesenthal, in the west on the district Prenden belonging to Wandlitz and in the northwest on Ruhlsdorf . State road 294 (Ruhlsdorf – Biesenthal) runs through Sophienstädt, and federal motorway 11 is about two kilometers to the southeast . Their nearest junction, Lanke, is about ten kilometers away.

history

Sophienstädt was built around 1700 as a Vorwerk von Ruhlsdorf and was expanded as a colony in 1736 and 1754 under the then owner Wilhelm von Happe . The name was first mentioned in 1773 as Sophiensteed . It is not known for sure after whom the settlement was named. Sophienstädt was then part of the Niederbarnim district , from which the Niederbarnim district was formed in 1817 . In 1824 Sophienstädt was destroyed by a local fire.

During the GDR district reform in 1952, the Niederbarnim district was dissolved and Sophienstädt was incorporated into the Eberswalde district. After the turnaround and the Brandenburg district reform in 1993, Sophienstädt was part of the Groß Schönebeck (Schorfheide) office in the Barnim district . On May 1, 2001, Sophienstädt was incorporated into Marienwerder. The Groß Schönebeck office was dissolved in 2003, and Sophienstädt has been part of the Biesenthal-Barnim office since then .
