Career

youth

Soram Anganba Poirei was born in Imphal, the capital of the Indian state of Manipur , in 1991 . According to his own statements, he had no personal interest in football; it was his father who motivated him to come to terms with it. Anganba Poirei therefore only gained his first footballing experience in 2002 at the age of ten.

In 2004 Anganba Poirei played for NCC Imphal in the Subroto Cup , an Indian tournament by or for football schools . Three years later he was accepted into the Tata Steel- funded Tata Football Academy in Jamshedpur , where he was unable to assert himself for various reasons. Instead, he moved to the IFA Academy in West Bengal , which is operated by the Indian Football Association , a regional football association .

He then returned to Imphal to play for Thau FC in the regional league of the state of Manipur ( Manipur State League ). In addition, he stepped for the regional selection Manipur in the fight for the BC Roy Trophy , an annual competition for the U-19 teams of the Indian states. For the team of the Santosh Trophy , a competition introduced in 1941, which was considered to be the Indian championship until 1996, he did not mention any appointment. He then played another season for the Pune FC U-19 team .

Professional career

Anganba Poirei himself described the commitment as a minor for the lower-class club Thau FC as the beginning of his professional career. He reached the top division in 2011 with his move to the I-League club Shillong Lajong FC from Shillong in the state of Meghalaya .

This was followed by the league-internal move to the "Pailan Arrows" (meanwhile "Indian Arrows") for the 2012/2013 season, a team specially designed for the Indian national team, which was supposed to collect match practice in league operations with a view to the soccer World Cup. There he was on the starting grid 18 times.

In the 2013-2015 seasons Anganba Poirei was part of the Bengaluru FC team for the first time . Towards the end of this phase, he celebrated his greatest successes to date: The 2015 championship in the I-League , the top Indian division alongside the Indian Super League, and winning the 2015 Federation Cup .

Up until the end of the 2017/2018 season, this phase was followed by five engagements with clubs in the I-League and Indian Super League, where Anganba Poirei only spent one season each: Aizawl FC , Delhi Dynamos FC , DSK Shivajians FC , Mohun Bagan AC and Atlético de Kolkata .

In the summer of 2018, Bengaluru FC, meanwhile switched to the Indian Super League, announced the return of Anganba Poirei.

National team

In February 2012, the first 68-named list of players was announced who would be eligible for the U-23 national soccer team that was to qualify for the U-22 Asian Cup in January 2014 . One of the seven goalkeepers in this first selection was Anganba Poirei. Even after the preparatory camp, he was still a member of the selection for the qualifying games. Since Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, a goalkeeper, was appointed vice-captain, he went as a substitute.

Others

In 2012, Anganba Poirei named Edwin Van der Sar , former Manchester United goalkeeper , as his role model in the international arena. In addition, he has meanwhile considered the team from England to be the “best team in the world”.
