Coordinates: 65 ° 32 '  N , 17 ° 33'  O Sorsele is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province Västerbottens Lan and the historical province Lapland . The main town of the municipality is Sorsele .

Almost half of the entire population lives in the main town. Other villages are Blattnicksele , Ammarnäs , Gargnäs , Klippen and several other small towns. The municipality is one of the largest municipalities in Sweden in terms of area , but with a population density of 0.4 inhabitants per km² it is one of the most sparsely populated.

The most important road connection is the European route 45 . In addition, the inland railway stops in the main town of Sorsele.

The Sorsele Proving Grounds is an automobile test site in the community.

Attractions

In the main town of Sorsele, the Inland Railway Museum shows the history of the Inland Railway. Also from Sorsele, the Älvkung ("River King"), a twelve-meter-long ship that is based on old plans , travels the Vindelälven .

About 60 km from Sorsele in the direction of Ammarnäs is the small church Gillesnuole with a separate bell tower. The Viktoriakirche 80 kilometers west of Sorsele was built in 1936-38 with an anonymous donation of 12,000 crowns.

The community offers some scenic highlights. The Gimegoults nature reserve is located approx. 15 kilometers east of Sorsele and can be reached via a 1.5-kilometer hiking trail. Sanderseleforsen is a nature reserve with a view of the rapids. The Vindelfjällen nature reserve is located in the west of the municipality around Ammarnäs. The moraine hill Potatisbacken ("Potato Mountain ") can be found in it. The Kungsleden (“Königsweg”) also crosses the community here. The Brudslöjan waterfall is about 50 km from Sorsele in the direction of Ammarnäs.
