Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance
The Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance ( SPAMI ) ( English for Special protection areas of Mediterranean importance ) are special areas of conservation, biodiversity of with their facility Mediterranean is to be preserved. Typical ecosystems , endangered living beings, as well as sites of scientific, aesthetic, cultural and educational importance are to be protected .
The program to establish these protected areas was created within the framework of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) coordinated by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) . Similar plans exist for other demarcated marine areas. Other zones under special protection are marked within the shelters.

The number of SPAMI protected areas is currently 34 (last expansion February 2016).
