The Catholic parish church of Saint-Denis in Jouy-le-Comte , a district of the municipality of Parmain in the Val-d'Oise department in the French region of Île-de-France , dates back to a Romanesque church from the second half of the 12th century. The Gothic bell tower dates from the late 13th century. Around 1550 the south aisle and the south side portal were built in the Renaissance style. The church is dedicated to St. Dedicated to Dionysius of Paris . In 1912 the choir and bell tower were designated as monuments historiquesincluded in the list of architectural monuments in France.

Exterior construction

The bell tower erected over the crossing over a square floor plan has large, slightly pointed twin windows on all four sides. Under the roof and on the walls it is covered with rough grimaces.

On the south aisle there is a chessboard frieze under the roof approach and below it a frieze of metopes and triglyphs . The southern side portal is covered by a triangular gable and laterally framed by fluted pilasters decorated with capitals .

inner space

The choir, the crossing and the north arm of the transept date from the 12th century. The apse is covered by a ribbed vault that rests on slender columns that are decorated with leaf capitals. It is broken through by four arched windows, the lead glass windows installed in 1958 were designed by Maurice Rocher.

In the main nave, which was almost completely rebuilt in the 17th century, only the north wall remains from the original construction. It is covered by a wooden barrel . Two arched arcades open to the south aisle.

Furnishing

  • The baptismal font is dated to the 13th century. It is carved with a leaf frieze on the upper edge.
