St-Germain-d'Auxerre (Dourdan)
The Catholic parish church of Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre in Dourdan , a municipality in the department of Essonne in the French region of Ile-de-France , was started in the mid-12th century and completed in the 14th century. history
In 1150 the church came into the possession of the Saint-Chéron-lès-Chartres Abbey, which had a new church built a short time later. The construction work dragged on for the entire 13th century and was not completed until the 14th century. During the Hundred Years War and during the wars of religion , the church suffered serious damage. During the French Revolution , the church was used as the Temple de la raison victorieuse (Temple of Victorious Reason), later as a prison and as a hayloft until it could be used again for worship in 1795.

Exterior construction
The west facade is flanked by two bell towers, which are covered by pointed slate roofs. Narrow, coupled sound arcades are cut into the left tower , the right, lower tower has tracery windows . A slightly pointed portal and a large, three-lane window open between the two towers. In the north and south the outer walls are supported by wide buttresses and are also broken through by large tracery windows. A roof turret is placed on the saddle roof of the church .

The church is built on a rectangular plan. For the first phase that comes with three naves and five bays structured nave . The triforium of the choir dates back to the early 13th century. In the course of the restoration of the church towards the end of the 15th century, the side chapels were added. The Lady Chapel with its apse closed on five sides and its two semicircular apses was added in 1689 to the east of the choir that was just closed . With this extension, the 18 meter wide and originally 36 meter long church was extended to 50 meters.
Leaded glass window
The church has numerous stained glass windows from the 19th century. Some bear the signature LORIN , a glass painting workshop in Chartres .
Furnishing
- The baptismal font is dated to the 17th century. It was declared a monument historique in 1986 .
- The organ with 22 registers on two manuals and pedal was installed by the organ builder Goyadin in 1876. It was declared a monument historique in 1981 .
