The Catholic parish church of Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre in Dourdan , a municipality in the department of Essonne in the French region of Ile-de-France , was started in the mid-12th century and completed in the 14th century. The St. The church, consecrated to Germanus von Auxerre , was added to the list of architectural monuments in France in 1967 as Monument historique .

history

In 1150 the church came into the possession of the Saint-Chéron-lès-Chartres Abbey, which had a new church built a short time later. The construction work dragged on for the entire 13th century and was not completed until the 14th century. During the Hundred Years War and during the wars of religion , the church suffered serious damage. During the French Revolution , the church was used as the Temple de la raison victorieuse (Temple of Victorious Reason), later as a prison and as a hayloft until it could be used again for worship in 1795.

The west facade is flanked by two bell towers, which are covered by pointed slate roofs. Narrow, coupled sound arcades are cut into the left tower , the right, lower tower has tracery windows . The church is built on a rectangular plan. For the first phase that comes with three naves and five bays structured nave . The triforium of the choir dates back to the early 13th century. The Lady Chapel with its apse closed on five sides and its two semicircular apses was added in 1689 to the east of the choir that was just closed . With this extension, the 18 meter wide and originally 36 meter long church was extended to 50 meters.
