St. Peters Church

The listed Evangelical Lutheran St. Peters Church is in Tiefenort , a district of the town of Bad Salzungen in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . The parish Tiefenort belongs to the parish area Tiefenort-Bad Salzungen II Kirchenkreis Bad Salzungen-Dermbach the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

A church was first mentioned in 1340 . Today's stone-sighted church, built from rubble stones with the choir tower from 1521, was rebuilt in 1585–1587. The loopholes in the tower indicate a former fortified church . The nave was extended to the west in 1629–1633. The sacristy was added in 1717. Another renovation took place in 1777. In 1891 the church was renovated. In 1968 the galleries and the patronage box of the von Beichlingen family were removed from the choir .

The nave has small ogival windows lying one above the other , underneath are oculi . Above the portal in the west from 1755/1777 is a Romanesque relief with a cross between leaf ornaments, with arched windows to the side . The south portal from 1630 is embossed . In the crown is an inscription , which is framed by fittings and a decorative obelisk. The north portal bears a coat of arms .

In 1777 , the stone floors of the tower were given an upper floor made of half-timbering , which is covered with slate . A bulbous hood sits on it , which continues in a closed lantern , which is crowned with a tower ball .

Two-storey galleries have been in the nave since 1630. It is covered with a vaulted coffered ceiling. The choir is covered with a star vault on consoles . The entablature is carried by caryatids , the reliefs are framed by the prodigal son and Noli me tangere . The triumphal arch is from 1521. The stone pulpit from 1550 has got gothic tracery . The organ was built in 1844 by Friedrich Christian Knauf .
