The St. Severinus and Jacobus Church in Minsen im Wangerland is a Romanesque hall church that was built at the beginning of the 13th century. The parish belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg .

building

On the apse and the surrounding east gable and on large parts of the south wall, the outer masonry consists of granite blocks . In other areas, the outer skin has been renewed with clinker bricks in modern times. An extensive renovation was carried out from 1980.

In the half-dome of the apse there are remains of wall paintings, some from the construction period, some from the 15th century. Christ can be recognized as the judge of the world. The church interior also has a wooden ceiling from the early Baroque period . The painting with tendril ornaments was freely reconstructed in 1987.

Furnishing

Altar of the Minsen Church

altar

The altar of the Minsener church comes from the village church of Groß Partwitz in the Hoyerswerda district . In the 1960s, the church had to give way to open- cast lignite mining . The altarpiece from 1650 found its place in Minsen in 1998 after it had been restored. In the middle the panel shows a scene of the Lord's Supper, including the birth of Christ. At the top of the altar, Christ points into the dome of the apse.
The former Minsener altar painting, a blessing Christ, found a new place on the south wall.

organ

The organ was built in 1841 by organ builder Gerhard Janssen Schmid from Oldenburg in the style of the Biedermeier period .

Bell cage and bells

In the 13th century, a brick belfry of the parallel wall type was built next to the church . The oldest bell is from 1747, a light bell from 1935 and the youngest from 1960.
