The Catholic parish church of St. Anna is located in the East Westphalian town of Verl in the district of Gütersloh , in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The hall church was built from 1792 to 1801 by Prince Wenzel Anton von Kaunitz , Count von Kaunitz-Rietberg and State Chancellor of Austria. Church and congregation belong to the Verl pastoral association in the Rietberg-Wiedenbrück deanery of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

After the previous church was demolished in 1792, Prince Wenzel Anton Kaunitz and his son Dominikus Andreas had the church built and furnished from 1792 to 1801. Count Kaunitz was an Austrian State Chancellor of Empress Maria Theresa and commissioned the Viennese architect Johann Ferdinand Hetzendorf von Hohenberg to design the building.

In 1933 the church was expanded with a choir annex to the west and two sacristy rooms with basements. In 1935 the interior of the church was redesigned in Baroque style.

On April 12, 1983, the church was entered together with the surrounding church square under number 2 in the list of architectural monuments in Verl .

In 2013 an extensive renovation of the roof structure took place. Due to the infestation of the beams with the pied rodent beetle , numerous rafters in the roof structure had to be renovated and renewed. Due to the existing population of bats , there were numerous interruptions in construction, as conditions of the Lower Landscape Authority interrupted the renovation work.

An extensive interior renovation of the church will be carried out in 2014. Completion is planned for Christmas 2014.

Building description

St. Anna in Verl is one of the few classical hall churches in Westphalia. The three naves have five bays and are spanned by flat longitudinal barrel vaults. The choir room in the west had rounded corners on the inside; the eastern corners of the tower are rounded inside and out. High stone pillars and wall templates support the straight beams with the wooden ceiling. The windows are arched, in the eastern tower just closed. The sound holes are again rounded. The entrances to the nave are straight, in the tower they are rounded.

Furnishing

The entire equipment - with the exception of the organ - was originally created by the court painter and furniture manufacturer Philipp Ferdinand Ludwig Bartscher from Rietberg. Of this, only the pulpit from 1799 remains . The neo-baroque high altar was made by Heinrich Repke in 1935. The altar painting shows Christ the King at whose feet the Verler Church stands. It is surrounded by the stalls of the Verler Land.

The oldest piece is a Gothic font from the church that was demolished in 1792.

  • the way of the cross from 1936
  • a church window of St. John Nepomuk from 1928. The depiction bears the facial features of the cathedral capitular F. Kühlmann.
  • a church window of the Holy Family from 1929
  • gold-plated sun monstrance made of silver before 1705

organ

The organ prospectus was created in 1834–1836 by Heinrich Wilhelm Breidenfeld from Münster. In 1984 a new building was carried out by Fischer & Krämer in which the housing and some registers were preserved. Today there are 39 registers on three manuals and pedal . Bells

When the monument conservator Albert Ludorff took stock, there was a bell from 1747 with a diameter of 0.78 m. It bears the inscription ex donatione r. dei. kw kathower pastory verlensis hec campana fusa est anno 1747 d, september 26th . Bells 2 to 4 are called new .

The current peal is pronounced with a deep semitone step.
